  • Great read!

Great Story! Once you start you won’t want to put it down. Not your typical love triangle story. Never know what will happen next... Full of romance and intrigue with a bitter sweet ending... can’t wait for the next book in the trilogy!

  • A love story to fabulously hate

It was a fabulously delicious read. You will be swept away by the lowcountry charm and the seemingly picturesque lives of these vibrant and bold characters. But readers beware. As you become intertwined into Caroline's Story the twists and tragedies will snatch your heart out and leave you pacing for her next book.

  • Intriguing, engaging, worth the read!

An intriguing and well-written narrative set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina at the turn of the 20th Century, this story artfully intermingles the romance of the South with the romance of its characters. The colorful history of the era is masterfully woven throughout. The story moves at a steady pace following the lives of not only the titular character, young Caroline Corbett, but others in her circle, whom the author has so richly developed that one can’t help being drawn to them. I received an advanced reader copy of this book. Romance novels aren’t really my thing, but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself hooked from the very beginning. There’s so much more to this story than you’ll find in the typical formulaic romantic novel. Unexpected developments will keep you engaged and turning the pages. I abhor predictable plots—the ones where I can guess the ending by chapter three. This is definitely NOT one of those. Ms. Alexander has ventured outside the box to create a truly unique and entertaining story. Well worth the read!

  • Twists and turns

Filled with relatable, real-life characters, Silk follows the growth of a lowcountry Southern girl at the turn of the century. Caroline is confident, self-assured and ready to embark on a new chapter in her life as she travels to her uncle’s plantation with her brother to begin a job at a local sewing factory. Along the way, Caroline catches the eye of not one, but two very different but equally smitten men. This isn’t a fairy tale though. Betrayal, loss, and unforeseen consequences lead Caroline on a different path than she planned. Her happily ever after changes shape as flawed decisions and rash actions bring Caroline to a crossroads. However, even after her path is chosen and settled, she discovers she can’t escape her past... There are times when you come across characters or stories that you can’t connect with. Silk is not one of them. Caroline is the enthusiastic friend who doesn’t always make the best choices. Stephen is the dream guy with unsavory vices. Clay is the passionate boy from the wrong side of the tracks and Jessie is the psycho that you hope Karma hits full force ( I tried to sympathize with Jessie in the beginning. I truly did, but she is a horrible, heartless sociopath). Each character is flawed but those flaws make them more “real”. Instead of creating a dislike for the characters, their flaws made less less cookie cutter and more genuine. I loved that this story centered around family and the dynamics that come along with that. Throughout the book, strong family ties were an essential theme, even in the more dysfunctional families. I’m interested to see how the story continues to progress in the next two books. Based on the preview of Tapestry, I’m intrigued by the Cinderella/Munchausen Syndrome theme and how it will play out. My fingers are crossed that Jessie finally gets her due!

  • Fascinating, surprising twists!

Though I'm typically a non-fiction reader, I totally enjoyed this story. Part suspense, part romance, with a pinch of delicious horror, this novel by Sophia Alexander will dazzle the reader with innumerable plot twists and surprising turns of character as a simple, period piece becomes an intricate and impeccably researched historical novel. A total escape from today's reality, the characters will draw you into their complex lives that have much more in common with our world today than you might think. Dive in for a great summer read!
