    Excellent Short Story

When I find a gem like this for free, I really do love my eReader. In the past I would have had to drive to the store and buy Esquire Magazine to read a great short story like this. Today all I have to do is wade through the piles of free fiction books (which are usually blah at best) to discover a gem like this story by Malcolm Torres. What makes it even better is that this is one book in a collection of stories that the author is giving away for free.

    Suspense Thriller

I like stories where I learn fascinating things that I never knew before. This story accomplishes exactly that. The author drops you onto the flight deck of aircraft carrier during operations, and quickly walks there is disaster in the making. The men are tough and smart and heroic. In a private moment we learn the main character is retiring from the Navy is 64 days (hence the title) and his plans with his wife to tour the national parks in a new motor home. But right now he must face an explosive disaster. I read it twice, because the first time through was a rush and the second time to savor the salty sea story.

    Excellent Sea Story

This story about tough Navy guys brought a tear to my eye. The relationship between the men is touching. The author makes you feel like you are there on the ship. I've been reading sea stories and other nautical fiction on the Malcolm Torres blog for a while. He is a great writer.

If you are into odnance handling...

Not really a page turner, its main interest lies in the description of deck operations. Short, too -27 pages-.
