A fresh perspective on a well loved series

8 books into the Psycops series, Jordan Castillo Price continues to expand on the world building and gives readers a fresh perspective to this beloved series. In all the previous books, we have seen the world of Psycops through Vic, the high level medium who has been recruited from law enforcement into a mysterious, off the book government organization. In Skin After Skin, we are still in this world but it gets a totally different spin through the eyes of Crash. Crash has been an intriguing (and popular) character for most of the series, and part of the intrigue comes from the fact that we really don’t know much about him. The pacing of this book is totally different to the other Psycops books as it spans a few years/books. We get Crash’s back story all the way through to the end of Spook Squad. At times, his story intersects with events from the other books and it is VERY enlightening to see his version of how things went down. But this book is about him, not Vic, not Jacob, and it is such a wonderful, slow burn, character study. I savored every word of every chapter and took things slowly, because I just didn’t want the book to end. I hope JCP continues to be inspired to add on to this incredible world she has created.
