    Slap Shot

This is an emotional addition to the Aces series and tells Max's story. We have been hearing about Max in previous books and had a glimpse into his backstory but now we get to know him. He has survived the worst couple years of his life. First his wife is diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer and he gives up hockey to spend her last days with her and then he is in such a deep depression he cannot bare to be around anyone. Now he is ready to get back to hockey and he has enlisted the help of a trainer and getting into to shape and even though the workouts are brutal he is alive. At Lovey and Duper's wedding he catches the eye of one of the bridesmaids and his libido wakes up too. Kendra Armstrong is Lovey and Army's cousin but she doesn't know Max but she likes what she sees and doesn't hesitate to invite him back to her hotel room. That night may not turn out as planned but they make up for it and settle into a "sex only" arrangement until that doesn't work any longer. Hockey Dude and Spice Girl...love the nicknames but the real kicker is the emotional level of this story. It was not only heartwarming but witty and fun. Great read! **Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**

    Excellent

An excellent addition to the Aces Hockey series. This is Max Hall's story and it's emotional, sexy, and full of hope. Max stepped away from the game and the team when his wife became ill. She passed away over a year ago and now his focus is earning his spot on the team back. Why his libido picks now to come back to life is beyond him butt one look at Kendra Armstrong and he's at full mast. Guilt weighs heavily on him but he knows he needs to move forward. Putting it all out there for Kendra was hard but she knows the score and agrees to a sex only relationship. Everything is going great until it wasn't. Great story and one I think you'll enjoy. I highly recommend it.

An emotional read with a lovely HEA

Max Hall's story is one I've been looking forward to since his entry into this series was pretty tragic. A year later and he's doing better since his wife passed away. Now he's at Marc and Lovey's wedding and one thing he's realized is that he needs to get laid. Army and Lovey's cousin, Kendra Armstrong is beautiful, lives in another city and is right there before him. She knows the ground rules and is the perfect one night stand. His sole focus is to make back on the team and a relationship will just be distracting him from achieving his goals. When he meets her at his teammate's weekend getaway, they take up where they left off with the same rules in place. Their chemistry is off the charts and they agree to hook up whenever they are in each other's city. But before they know it, a relationship is in place and the complications begin. I really like Kendra's character. She has had a difficult past with relationships but isn't afraid to love again. Max comes across as determined and discipline but I felt he was a tad cowardly and made excuses to justify his reasons. But at the end, I think he just had to make that journey emotionally to overcome his fears and finally allow himself to love again. This book also has a crossover with the Bayard Hockey series. I received an Advanced Reviewers Copy from the Publisher via #NetGalley for voluntary review consideration.

    Sexy romance

Wow! Another sexy and spicy read in the Aces Hockey series. This is a stand alone novel that tells Max's story as he struggles to overcome the loss of his wife. When she was dying, he took a leave from the team to take care of her, then fell into a depression. The story picks up with Max struggling to get back to his prior level of fitness so he can make the team again. When Max meets Kendra at a wedding, the sparks fly and their hot attraction practically burned the pages of my kindle. Their story is red-hot and full of spice, however it isn't for the younger readers. I really liked Max and how he was still in love with his late wife while struggling to move forward. As much as I loved him, I didn't feel like I got a good sense of who Kendra was. Other than her job, which is priceless, I didn't have a good sense of who she was. This is a book worth reading that fans of the genre will enjoy. The author is on my must read authors' list.

    Solid addition to the series.

**Advanced copy provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review** Slap Shot was a nice addition to the Aces Hockey series. While part of the series, it can standalone if you haven't read the previous books. Max Hall has been dealing with the death of his wife and has been struggling to move on. His grief has not only affected his off-ice life, but his on-ice life too. Having taken more than a season off, he's got to work to get himself back in shape before training camp. While he has full dedication to this new training program, he still doesn't have much interest in starting up a new romance, that is until he meets a gorgeous woman, Kendra, at one of his teammate's weddings. The chemistry between Max and Kendra is instantaneous. The sex is red-hot and they are beyond compatible in bed, however neither one wants a relationship and couple that with the fact they live in different cities, in different states and that certainly complicates things. As the two agree to continue their sexcapades, they end up running into each other in some unexpected places that actually help to further their relationship outside the bedroom. While Max is still dealing with his feelings over his wife's death, will he be able to see this relationship with Kendra for what it really is - the start of something amazing or will he keep her at arms length and continue just existing? I enjoyed this book quite a bit, however I did struggle with the negativity that Max had toward his wife in several situations. No one is perfect, I totally get that, but it seemed like more often than not he was finding fault with the way she interacted with him - the way she supported his career, the way she fit in with his family, the way she even was in bed, etc. I know it's hard not to compare experiences, and even people, and maybe this was his way of having to deal with his grief to move on, but it just felt more negative than I think it should have for someone that he loved so much and chose to spend his life with. I'm looking forward to the next installment of this great series as it is always one of my go-to's!
