    Excellent

An excellent addition to the Aces Hockey series. This is Max Hall's story and it's emotional, sexy, and full of hope. Max stepped away from the game and the team when his wife became ill. She passed away over a year ago and now his focus is earning his spot on the team back. Why his libido picks now to come back to life is beyond him butt one look at Kendra Armstrong and he's at full mast. Guilt weighs heavily on him but he knows he needs to move forward. Putting it all out there for Kendra was hard but she knows the score and agrees to a sex only relationship. Everything is going great until it wasn't. Great story and one I think you'll enjoy. I highly recommend it.

    4 Stars!

If you have read the previous book in the series then you would already know Max Hall. He's the one that broke our hearts when we learned his wife was dying of cancer. In Slap Shot, Kelly Jamieson brought him back to show us how he was dealing with that loss and helping him to come back to life from his grief. I'm not always a fan of stories that have one of the main characters finding love again after a deceased spouse. I think it's not an easy thing to accomplish having that character properly mourn the spouse without making them too much of the focus in the new relationship or being too callous about the death. I think Kelly did a good job with Max's story. At least, for me I was satisfied with how she handled everything. He did still mourn his wife and truly believed he would never find love again or more like he was afraid to find love again, but I never felt like the deceased spouse took over in the story. We got to see Max open up to Kendra even when he was in denial. He wasn't perfect, which you really can't expect from someone that is coming out of grief. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I'm so happy that Max found Kendra. They were so great together. If you are taking request Kelly Jamieson, I want to see Kendra's best friend and business partner get a book. We only got one scene with her little girl but she was adorable and I want to see one of these strapping hockey players come into their lives. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Hockey romance but so much more!

This is the fifth book in this series and I have been looking forward to it! Yes, it is a hockey romance but it is so much more. I really think this is my favorite of the series. Max has had a few spots in the other books and he left the team to be with his dying wife. I am so glad the author told Max’s story! Max had a serious case of depression following his wife’s death and who wouldn’t. She was the love of Max’s life. After months of too much beer, junk food and staying home wallowing in grief, Max was finally ready to take his life back. It has been 15 months and a long road but he is ready to win the spot on his team and maybe find a woman to have sex with. Of course, he wants no strings attached. No relationship, no commitments. He has a trainer and is working on getting back into the best shape he possibly can to get his spot back on the Aces. Kendra was a therapist that gave up her practice and now has a business that makes sex toys. She started the company with her best friend and they are doing very well. Kendra is sweet, smart, savvy, funny and beautiful. She has been burned in relationships by men that had serious issues. She has learned she can’t fix people. Her life is in New York but she travels to Chicago frequently for business, plus her cousin, who also plays for the Aces lives there. Kendra is a force of nature, confident and carefree and she catches Max’s eye at the wedding of a teammate and Kendra is a bridesmaid. Kendra notices the handsome man watching her and decides to make a move. Needless to say, they have a few drinks and head up to her room. That’s where I am going to leave it. I don’t want to give anymore away because the reader needs to enjoy the book. This book is told from Max’s POV with Kendra getting her POV in the epilogue. As I said in the beginning this was my favorite of the series. I loved watching Max gaining momentum in getting his life back and Kendra with her sweet and spicy spirit cheering him on. There are some parts that are sad when you see them struggling with issues and heartbreak. This is a second chance at love again and learning to live again for both Max and Kendra. There still was plenty of hockey and lots of steamy smexy times to keep me turning those pages. I can’t wait for more of the Chicago Aces!

    Slap Shot

This is an emotional addition to the Aces series and tells Max's story. We have been hearing about Max in previous books and had a glimpse into his backstory but now we get to know him. He has survived the worst couple years of his life. First his wife is diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer and he gives up hockey to spend her last days with her and then he is in such a deep depression he cannot bare to be around anyone. Now he is ready to get back to hockey and he has enlisted the help of a trainer and getting into to shape and even though the workouts are brutal he is alive. At Lovey and Duper's wedding he catches the eye of one of the bridesmaids and his libido wakes up too. Kendra Armstrong is Lovey and Army's cousin but she doesn't know Max but she likes what she sees and doesn't hesitate to invite him back to her hotel room. That night may not turn out as planned but they make up for it and settle into a "sex only" arrangement until that doesn't work any longer. Hockey Dude and Spice Girl...love the nicknames but the real kicker is the emotional level of this story. It was not only heartwarming but witty and fun. Great read! **Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**

    Emotional read

4.5 Star Review of Slap Shot (Aces Hockey #5) by Kelly Jamieson This is book 5 in the Aces hockey series and can be read as a standalone. Over the last few years I have been reading more and more stories about hockey and thoroughly enjoy them. Kelly Jamieson has done a great job with this series. Initially I didn't particularly like Max Hall, a pro hockey player trying to get back into the starting line up of the Chicago Aces, after being away from the game for over 12 months trying to get over the death of his wife. Attending his team mates wedding, he meets the intriguing Kendra Armstrong who is in the bridal party. Both are looking to have some fun with no commitments; just a casual fling, or is it? Max is slowly coming out of the fog that his wife's death has left him in and realises that he is lonely. Kendra brings a spark to his life and brightens him up. The attraction and connection between Max and Kendra sizzles until complications arise. Slap Shot at times is an emotional roller coaster as Max wrestles with his growing feelings for Kendra. There was laughter, smoking hot scenes and a plenty of complications. Will Max overcome his guilt at falling for a new woman? Or will he let Kendra go? You'll have to one click and read.
