  • Great subject matter but a bit long.

I really enjoyed the subject of the story and it left me yearning for a good sourdough starter I did not have to make myself! However at times it seemed to get long loosing my interest. I really had to push myself to finish the book.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • I am a sourdough user.

As a longtime sourdough capturer and user, I found this book a fun read. Unfortunately, my sourdoughs I made myself, by first letting the milk sour at room temperature and then adding the flour, so they are somewhat bland like the King Arthur dough in the novel. I keep wondering how I can now get mine to smell like bananas. Years ago when I was using it frequently and feeding it a lot, I actually had it “blow” the lid off the large sealing jar I kept it in. It was fine in the fridge, but when I took it out into the warm air, while it was still in my hand the lid blow off and I had bit’s of sourdough all over my kitchen, some on the ceiling. The power of fermentation should not be underestimated. So I could easily understand how Robin Sloan could take it one further. I have read that each sourdough will be slightly different as it takes on the unique bacteria in the household where it resides. I do know my home sourdough is different than my cottage one.

  • Loved this story, different and well written.

I found this book refreshingly different, it was quirky and witty, very imaginative but believable. Would recommend it to foodies and anyone who is adventurous!

This book left me with a distinct craving for sourdough bread! Love this authors previous books and this one is no disappointment! Somewhat fantastical mixed with reality.
