THE STORY OF LOYALTY AND COURAGE AMIDST THE ASHES

I was very excited to read this novella, a prequel to the Star series which enthralled my imagination. I was not disappointed. The Star Queen is a stand-alone novella that takes us on a journey with a band of survivors rising out of the ashes of oppression. But more important, here, Susan lays the foundation for the Star sequels that function within the binding values and stabilizing force of the governing body of the galaxy, the Vash Nadah. Worth paying attention to is the way Susan portrays the love story of Taj and Romjha B’kah with the message that together woman and man can strengthen society. I am eager to reread the sequels after reading The Star Queen. The only criticism I have is that I would have preferred a book to this novella. As a book, more detail would heighten the image of the planet, the oppressor, and survival tactics. That said, I still give The Star Queen 5 stars because of Susan’s skillful writing. A copy of this book was provided to me by the author with no expectations or requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest and sincere opinion.

    Great read!

Susan Grant at her finest! This is a wonderful stand-alone prequel that tells the story of Romjha B'Kah and his quest for a new civilization of peace. Don't miss this one! Crisp action filled sci-fi/rom

Explosive beginning to the Star series. Full of action to please the science fiction lover with sensuous romance. Taj is a strong powerful woman not defined by gender roles. Romjha is the ultimate heroic warrior. Even though it's a stand-alone prequel book to the series, immediately after reading this I had to turn and begin Star King. I couldn't stop at just one Susan Grant book. A copy of this book was provided to me with no expectation or requirement for review. The comments made are sincere, honest opinions of the book.

STAR Prequel by a STAR Author

Years ago, I fell in love with Susan Grant’s writing. First for me was THE STAR KING. Later, I could hardly wait to read THE STAR PRINCE, and then THE STAR PRINCESS. Now I gladly have her newly updated Prequel novella to review, THE STAR QUEEN. In STAR QUEEN, we are introduced to a character with the last name, B’kah, a raider Captain. This name shows up in the first novel, THE STAR KING. This raider Captain and a munitions officer lead one of the resistance groups on the planet, Sienna. The planet had been decimated by an evil overlord in that region of space, and the planet’s survivors had to go underground – literally, to regroup and fight back. In addition to the plot, which draws you in and keeps you spell-bound, there is also extraordinarily intense romance that we get to see develop between our STAR characters. At one point, Romjha B’kah, our raider Captain has this thought about Taj: “…the urge to follow was almost unbearable, but he was not yet the man Taj deserved. Soon, he would be. Then he would make his intentions known. Body and soul, she would be his.” I won’t attempt to describe Taj here, except to say that throughout the novella, I see someone who is indeed “royalty,” body and soul. Munitions expert, a warrior spirit, a nurturing heart, a mate, a mother – these and more are aspects of her very complex individuality. I happen to think that the character mirrors much of our author, Susan Grant. Yes, a real Star Queen. Each of the Star series is stand-alone. I truly like this, as so many authors like to leave stories unfinished in order to move you to another in their series. Series can be wonderful, of course, but readers like me expect to not be short-changed on complete stories. I thank Susan Grant for the quality and dedication she brings to her creation. A copy of this book was provided to me by the author with no expectations or requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest and sincere opinion!: Of note, if after reading this prequel, you agree with me about our STAR AUTHOR, and want to read all of the series, the entire series is now available in a four-book boxed set. More is good, right?

A great addition to the series!

I really liked this book. I've read the sequels and loved all of them. This story is about how the government of the other three novels started out and the story of the B'kah family and the original king and queen. It was pretty awesome to finally read their story and put all the pieces of the beginning together with the characters from the current books. Taj is the star queen and Romjha is the king, but they start out as part of a group of survivors of an attack on their planet that pretty much decimated the population. Romjha eventually becomes one of the leaders of the Vash Nadah, along with leaders of the other clans. This story takes place many years before the sequels and it really brings the beginning of their history to life. I thought it was a great addition to the series!
