    Loved it

No one can take a fairytale and turn it on its head like Mercedes Lackey. She takes a story you already know and makes it up new.

    Disappointing

Sadly this book is no where near as good as her early Elemental Masters novels. The magic was much more of a side note to the story of unattainable true love. Had all mention of magic been removed this book would be a typical romance novel as magic seems to play no significant part in the tale at all. There's only brief back story, some of which is hinted at as being suspicious but never actually explained in full, I found the characters difficult to connect with as well as lacking development, and the story felt almost preachy at times with no real point. Overall a very disappointing read, it's unfortunate that Mercedes doesn't seem to be writing at the same caliber as her older novels which held me until the last page.
