    Uninteresting, Uninspired, and Lazy

The novel is structured heavily around a protagonist who's ambivalence and disinterest seem to be traits that encapsulate all of France. This gives the novel an incredibly dull tone that makes it difficult to derive any sort of humor from a supposedly funny satirical piece. Controversies over the racist structure of this satire aside, it's simply boring and uninteresting to read. If none of the characters within the story itself care, why should I? Not to mention the author doesn't make an attempt to describe in depth the imaginary second term of Hollande. This second term could have been a goldmine for engaging political commentary. Instead the author chooses the low hanging sensationalist fruit.
