  • Hot, sexy, funny, and dramatic!

I flat out loved this book. It had everything I look for in a story. I loved the characters, the story, and the way it made me laugh, swoon, and cry. It's perfect. I can't believe I'm saying this especially considering the way I love Tangled, but Sustained may have just replaced it as my favorite Emma Chase book. It's certainly unforgettable. Jake Becker is a driven man. He's set on becoming partner and nothing is going to stop him. He's not one for attachments other than those to his friends. Women don't compute longer than it takes for him to get them and himself off. He's an honest manwhore. So when he meets Chelsea incidentally and suddenly things are topsy turvy. I loved Jake and being in his head. He's hilarious. I loved how he was with all of the McQuaids in particular the younger ones. I loved seeing him change his perspective towards his future. I understood his battles between what he thought he should do and what he needed. Jake wasn't an easy man. He might be a complete shark in the courtroom and do whatever needed to win, but he wasn't heartless. Chelsea McQuaid is something else. I adored her. She's so determined to do right by her brother, the way he did right by her. I felt her pain and understood her fears. She was alone, but she was trying her best to deal with her grief and that of her nieces and nephews. She needs help, in fact all the little ones need help and it seems like Jake found his way into their lives at just the right time. There's this special alchemy between Chelsea and Jake. They spark and flare, but can't stay away from each other. While neither are paragons of virtue, both are dealing with their changing realities and learning from the mistakes they make. I loved watching them be happy as much as I did watching them make up after a fight or disagreement. Jake and Chelsea are real and easy to relate to, especially when they're messing up. I loved how much I laughed while reading this story. It's not just Jake's dry tone of voice, but also the kids. They had me in stitches. I also loved how easy it was to connect to all of them. I read this book in a couple of hours because I couldn't bear to put it down. In fact I devoured the first quarter of the book in thirty minutes. The pages just flew by as I fell for Jake, Chelsea, and the kids. I loved seeing Stanton, Sofia, and Brent again. Emma Chase has done a magnificent job with Sustained. I foresee myself doing numerous re-reads of this book. My words are inadequate but the book speaks for itself. You must give it a try if you like soulful, moving, romantic comedies.

  • Top Emma Chase read to date! LOVED it

This book is AMAZING! 10,000 stars. Top Emma Chase read to date. I listened to Sustained on audiobook and I'm so glad I did. I had my doubts going into this. Overruled was...not my favorite book. I couldn't handle Stanton Shaw. But...I LOVE Emma Chase's writing and I love Sebastian York's narration, so I thought I would give the second book in The Legal Brief's series a chance. I'm SO glad I did. Things I loved about this book: ~ Emma Chase is able to write such a good male POV. I don't even miss the female POV. Being in Jake's head is exactly where I wanted to be. The writing is such a great combination of funny, sexy and intelligent. I was quickly sucked into the story and invested in the characters. ~ Jake. OMG. I LOVE Jake. I love that he is honest (almost to a fault). I love that he is a bit of a jerk. I love that he is afraid he doesn't have what it takes to be in a relationship. I love that he can't turn away from Chelsea and the kids. Jake really made this book for me. ~ The kids. I was afraid that the kids would detract from the story. Let me tell you. These kids made the story even better for me. They were all unique, they all pulled on my heart for a different reason and I just LOVED Jake's reaction to them. I loved how he didn't talk to them like they were kids. Jake with the kids was completely swoon-worthy. ~ Chemistry. Seriously. This book had some HOT scenes. The chemistry between Jake and Chelsea, the way he is with her ... you may need a change of clothes. OMG! I loved every second. ~ Laugh out loud. Did I mention this book was funny? Yes it has some serious, somber moments. But this book made me laugh OUT loud while listening. I had my ear buds in and my daughter would ask me what was so funny because I just couldn't contain my laughter. ~ Mention of STD's. So often in books, the guy is a manwhore and the subject of STD's never comes up. Emma Chase did a great job of bringing up this topic and how serious it is. Much respect is due for authors that remind readers that it is a huge risk to sleep around. ~ Strong heroine. Chelsea rocked. She was strong. She was feminine. She was awesome with her nieces and nephews. She did not put up with any BS from Jake. Emma Chase created a great female lead character with Chelsea. What I didn't like about this book: Not a thing. Book like this one is why I read. From the first line I was hooked and I couldn't get enough until I read to the end. Bottom line: Sustained is funny, sexy, serious and captivating. READ THIS BOOK!!! I can't wait to read more by this author. Highly recommend the audiobook as well. Sebastian York nailed Jake's POV.

  • #2 in Emma Chase's The Legal Briefs series.

★★★½ Sustained is the second installment in Emma Chase's adult contemporary romance series titled The Legal Briefs. Ms. Chase's male POV is a lot of fun to read. Tangled is my absolute favorite from her and none of her other work I've read thus far compares but Sustained is up there. Many adult romances end in happily ever afters, marriages, pregnancies, and characters headed towards their very own branch on the family tree. But very few heroes opt to take on a large group of someone else's children just to be close to his love interest. This very blended family certainly presented lots of obstacles to deal with which created humor, drama, tension, suspense, along with other emotions, but the romance managed to remain sexy and heartfelt. Although this is part of a series, readers can certainly read this particular installment as a standalone. It's that kind of series. Check it out! My favorite quote: “I’ve played bingo with these senior citizens. They take that shit seriously. They might be old, but if you get I-22 when they were waiting for B-6? They’ll bust your fucking kneecaps as quick as any backstreet bookie, without an ounce of remorse.” Emma Chase's The Legal Briefs series includes the following installments as of December 2016: #1-Overruled #2-Sustained #3-Appealed #3.5-Sidebarred
