4.25 ~ Short & Sweet Second Chance Holiday Novella

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Cute and whimsical with only a hint of holiday. Synopsis is interesting. Both the cover and blurb are unique enough to pique my interest. > > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Third-person Lizzy's been married only for three years to a US Army Staff Sergeant, which means he was likely already an E5 or E6 when they married. She knew what life would entail when they met, yet now she's left him and is filing for divorce. Mitch was a fearless leader on the battlefield and exuded confidence when commanding his men but losing Lizzy scared him above all else. He planned a surprise Holiday getaway with his estranged wife, to a place she'd always wanted to go. Now all that was left was to hope things worked out! At first, I really did not like Lizzy at all. She did not seem like a very supportive Army wife. As the story goes along, the reader begins to understand her a little more. Mitch was great. Their love was still tangible. I loved that Dare (and, by extension, Jenny) was given cameo even if it were via phone call or text. The dialogue was smart and the interactions were believable. The plot flowed incredibly well. Ms. McClone managed to portray a much larger story in only a few dozen pages. She provided a rich backstory already with conflict where SWEET HOLIDAY WISHES was the Resolution in progress. The ending was satisfying. Predictability was not an issue. . Love second chances!

I really enjoy second chance romances for married couples! It’s so sweet to see them recognize problems and come together to try again. Mitch still didn’t understand why Lizzy wanted a divorce in the beginning. He just wanted to woo her back. I loved seeing him realize that her complaints had merit and his determination to change. Their true desires and love for each other really showed in their wishes. Theirs is a wonderful story!
