Wonderful! A great piece of fantasy. Can’t wait for the other two books!

  • Brilliant comic fantasy

This book made me laugh aloud three times in a crowded coffee shop while I was reading the preview, so I bought it immediately. I'm reasonably sure the owner thought I was mad by the time I left. Halla is a delight. Her sword is a delight. Her family is awful. Her possessed bird is unholy and terrifying, and I loved him. The plot is a tad predictable in spots, but I didn't care a bit because I was busy laughing so hard my stomach hurt. I can't wait for the sequels.

  • <pun on "heart" goes here>

Kingfisher's trademark Sensible Protagonists are alway a joy to read -- and here there's *two* of them. Chemistry between H&S is wonderful, and their mistakes are *plausible*. Still bugs me that people in this setting say "okay", but I can live with it.

  • Laughter and tears

This book is hilarious and then it is horrifying. But you can still laugh when it’s over.

  • Incredible character development

Once again I was completely drawn in to the lives and dilemmas of these flawed and lovable characters that TKingfisher creates.. I find myself daydreaming about what is happening in their “lives” and am impatiently waiting the sequel ......
