    Wonderful read

A beautiful written Regency novel by Felicity Brandon. I love Regency novels and I am adding this to one of my favorites. Lydia becomes the ward of Lord Thomas Markham after the death of her father. Lydia discovers very quickly that the house and the Lordship himself are not your average household. Lord Markham awakens feelings in Lady Lydia she has never felt before and isn’t sure about. Felicity Brandon does an amazing job of slowly exploring Lydia’s feelings and emotions and struggles she feels on her journey to become an submissive. She is overwhelmed at times and the constrictions of the time make this even harder. There is a wonderful connection between Lydia and Lord Markham, there is an instant attraction and it deepens during the book. It has wonderful written sensual scenes, but for me the emotional journey makes this book special.

    Slow burning sensual

Unusual....many erotic novels are very explicit and get there quickly....This is written almost like a novel of the period...the mood and language are very evocative....Gothic....The erotiscism sneaks up on you, Lord Markham slowly introduces Lydia to pleasure through pain......maybe not your cup of tea ( I've read some creepy, violent stories that put me off) but this book is a very slow burn and the story much better for it....It becomes quite enthralling: the very experienced Lord Markham and the naive Lydia and the way their relationship develops as Thomas introduces Lydia to his world...Not at all what I expected, a very sensual and yes explicit story presented in a very intelligent grown-up novel....really really enjoyed it, which surprised me as it's not my usual read..
