    My new addiction

4.5 stars An interesting concept - a tale of Storm, Texas and it's inhabitants but told by different authors. Reading like a Soap Opera I was hooked almost right from the start. The stories, the secrets, the lies, the loves - I truly cannot wait for the next instalment. Some of the authors are known to me, others I have not read - this will give me a good idea of their own styles. Copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

This is going to be a great series

The series is going to be CRAZY! You can already see the storm building and its only the first book. On top it's all sunny smiles but dark waters churn below. Where there is love and family, at the same time secrets and deception are aplenty. Can't wait for the next episode.

This is going to be a fun series to read!

I had the chance to be a part of the review crew for a new series called Rising Storm. I am so excited that I was accepted! This is to be a series of 8 books - novellas - that will be release week by week and each "episode" is written by a different author. All the characters interchange within each book, so it feels like a soap opera. I just finished the first installment in the series Tempest Rising. It was well written, considering Ms. Kenner had to set up the whole small town scene, characters and back stories etc.. Never once did I feel like I was getting bogged down the by details that had to be shared so I could follow all the story lines. The writing flowed wonderfully. I am already invested and have picked out a few characters to be my favourites. I am looking forward to all the twists and turns this kind of storyline brings. I am happy to say I gasped more than once while reading this book. I can't wait to see what the next episode brings! If you like a series that take place in a small town, and lots of secrets, sex and scandals.. this is a series is for you!! On a side note: I haven't read anything by Julie Kenner before, but I am surely going to look up her back list! If all the writing in this series is as good as this book, I will have seven new-to-me authors! Gotta love that bonus! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Great start to a new series!

TEMPEST RISING is the exciting first episode in the 8-book Rising Storm series. Each instalment is written by a well-known author: apart from Ms. Kenner, in order of appearance, the next instalments will be by Lexi Blake, Elisabeth Naughton, Jennifer Probst, Larissa Ione, Rebecca Zanetti, Lisa Mondello and Dee Davis. The story will unfold over 8 weeks, so expect cliff-hangers at the end of each book. In TEMPEST RISING, Ms. Kenner sets the scene and introduces the characters and the story lines. On summer break from university, Ginny Moreno is driving home to Storm, Texas with her best friend Jacob Salt. It’s a rainy night, the road is slippery, and Ginny is involved in a car accident that will have repercussions on many lives in the small town. Meanwhile, Sherriff Dillon Murphy, who has loved Joanne Grossman since high school but has never had the nerve to act on it, has noticed that something is not right with Joanne, and that her marriage to Hector Alvarez may not be as happy as everybody thought. TEMPEST RISING is so exciting, I almost felt like clapping my hands in glee! But do not expect any spoilers from me! There are many secrets being kept, relationships that will come to be, others that will fall apart; and after only one episode, I can hardly wait for the rest. Ms. Kenner is a fantastic writer, very eloquent, all the characters are well-defined, and the town of Storm Texas is described so vividly, it seems real to me. TEMPEST RISING grabbed my attention from the first page and I cannot wait to read the rest; Rising Storm is going to be an amazing series! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    Amazing first episode

Amazing first Episode. The quiet little town of Storm is quaint and apparently full of secrets. Its inhabitants all know each other since the town is relatively small. Beneath the social acceptabilities lies an undercurrent that encompasses all the emotional turmoils possible for human beings. This first episode sets the stage introducing all the main characters. In an easy going approach, we learn all about them and their everyday lives. Tragedy has struck the town with the death of one of their own. In the process of dealing with this, we get to take a second look at our main characters and are privy to the underbelly of what seemingly are outstanding citizens. There is adultery, greed, hate, abuse, et al. Somehow it reminded me of a place called Peyton Place. Yes, I am dating myself now, since this was a little town wrought with all kinds of sinful behaviors. I am definitely hooked and awaiting to read these weekly episodes. It is like reading a juicy and devilishly delightful TV mini series and we the readers are the voyeurs!
