A New Adult Romance with Depth

This book wasn't really what I was expecting. I was expecting your typical New Adult (NA) Romance story and I was wrong. While this book has some definite elements from a typical NA Romance, it goes so much deeper than that. It's packed full of emotion and issues and dealing. Both main characters, Kacey and Trent, are pretty messed up in their own way. They each have hidden pasts that they have tried - and failed - to deal with in unique ways. Throughout the story, we see both struggle and finally deal with their traumatic pasts. There is definitely growth of characters in the novel. There is one major twist in this story that I think is pretty easy to figure out after a certain point. I, myself, guessed it a little over halfway through the book. However, even though my guess was correct, it didn't really ruin it for me when the book eventually reveals the twist to the reader. I had my doubts, of course, and there was the anticipation of when I was going to find out for certain. So, even though a lot of readers will probably pick out this twist, I don't think it affects the enjoyment of its reveal. While this book was good and it kept my interest throughout (I didn't want to put it down at times), I just don't feel much excitement over it. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I read it, but I feel it only deserves 4 stars. There were just little things that prevent me from fully loving it enough to give it a higher rating. It was very close to earning a 4.5 rating, however, but in the end it's a 4-star for me.

    Highly Recommended

I downloaded this book on a whim because it was on special and I needed a purchase to get a credit card reward bonus, and, honestly, it is probably oneof my best purchases. I've seen two psychiatrists, one that diagnosed me with minor depression and one that diagnosed me with Type II Bipolar. I have read books that deal with mental illness, both mine and others, and have cringed at how characters with them are portrayed. I thought Tucker dealt with those in this book extremely well--Tucker, thank you. Like most books there are parts that perhaps could have been polished more, but then when would books actually be published? Overall this is a great read: the romance is a side dish that plays a key role in the main story instead of flopping there like a live fish next to a cooked meal, the main character is relateable and the ultimate message is clear without being preachy or overbearing. I'm going to be recommending it to almost everyone I know.

A fantastic read that showcases the full range of emotions that we all go through when we loose the ones we love. K.A. Tucker has designed a book where you fall in love with the main character, feel her pain and triumphs, and cry with her when times get tough. A must read for young adults.
