    Heartfelt Coming of Age Story

This was such a heartfelt and poignant coming of age story. It packs a huge emotional punch and I didn't want it to end. This is Sarina Bowen's first YA novel and I hope this is the start of many more to come. The Accidentals is such a relatable story. The situations and challenges may not be the same, but the emotions and feelings will resonate with readers. Haven't we all felt lost and confused? Angry and overwhelmed? Wanting all the answers, but scared of the answers we seek? This book is a love story, but not just in a romantic way. It is also a love story between parent and child, between friends - new and old, and to those we call family - by blood or by choice. The beauty of this book is that each character is so wonderfully human. They make mistakes and horrible decisions. They're sometimes selfish and clueless. They hurt others when that's the last thing they want. What makes these characters endearing though is that they get back up and keep trying. They may not get it right the first time (or the 20th), but they don't give up. Add in a wonderful cast of secondary characters (loved Jake, Ernie, and Aurora!) and you've got something pretty darn close to perfect. The relationship between Frederick and Rachel evolved through the entire book in such an honest and realistic way. Both had their lives flipped upside down and irrevocably altered so quickly. When we first meet them, there is so much baggage from the past and a minefield of questions and secrets they have to wade through. I loved seeing both characters grow, change, and mature. Hard truths had to be faced and yes, there were some heartbreaking moments as the past and present came together. Through it all though, Sarina Bowen weaves a tale of hope. Hope that where everything wrong turns right. I didn't want this book to end and as much as I hope that we might see more of these characters again in the future, I also feel that Sarina Bowen leaves readers exactly where they need to be as they turn the last page. I can't recommend The Accidentals enough!

This story deserves a standing ovation!

This was such a good story! I was really excited to see how Sarina Bowen would do with a Young Adult novel. Honestly, she blew me away with this story. Once I started reading this one, I didn't want to stop. I needed to know how things would work out for Rachel. I was hanging onto every word and felt like I knew this group of characters. This was one of those books that was just a joy to read. Rachel goes through so much over the course of this book. When we meet Rachel, she is living in a children's home after the death of her mother. She has never met her father until he shows up to be introduced by the social worker. Rachel's father is a star with fans everywhere including the daughter he has never met. Rachel and her father get to know each other very quickly and before she knows it her life is turned upside down once again. I loved the characters in this book. Rachel is such a nice girl, a good girl, and there was a part of me that just wanted to see her scream and be angry. But that wasn't Rachel. As I read further I really understood who Rachel was and when she did break down she did it in her own way. She is resilient and tough and proves that she is willing to stand up for herself. Fredrick was equally great. He made a whole lot of mistakes in the years that lead up to the start of this book but in this story he is really trying to do what is best for Rachel. He does mess things up a time or two but he never stopped trying. His character may have been the one with the most growth over the course of this book. This book does so many things well. The core of the story deals with Rachel building a relationship with her father. It also deals with Rachel's grief over the loss of her mother and her desire to learn more about her parents' relationship. There is a romance that is well done and offers quite a few swoony moments. I thought another key aspect of the story is watching Rachel learn what she wants and having the courage to speak up for herself. Everything really works together to tell an amazing story. I would highly recommend this book to others. This was just an amazing story that was able to find its way into my heart. Rachel is an unforgettable character with an incredibly powerful story. I can't wait to read more from Sarina Bowen in the future. I received a digital review copy of this book from the author.

The Accidentals, a great 6 star read

The Accidentals by the outstanding author Sarina Bowen is her first YA Novel. And oh boy, she nailed it . There are only a couple of authors I can rely on to write stories that speak to me every single time, and Sarina Bowen is one of them. I still remember reading Bittersweet, the first book in her True North Series, and how I was blown away. I was sucked in and instantly a fan of the author’s writing. That was the beginning, I haven’t regretted it once. With The Accidentals, Sarina Bowen wrote a story that spoke to me in more ways than I can count. Rachel Kress was my super hero. She was beyond awesome, despite her more than difficult circumstances she never gave up. I loved her. Not only for her strong personality, but also for the way she connected with the other characters in the story. The Accidentals is told in a single POV; the book is a full length, standalone and one of my favorite reads in 2018. The Accidentals was heart wrenching, at the same time sweet, romantic, enchanting, and just a story that needs to be read. If you haven’t read any of Sarina Bowen´s books yet, this is the book to start with. It was everything I could have asked for. A MUST READ!!!
