Next Book in Series Exceeds Expectations!

“The Alchemy of Chaos” gave me everything I want in a fantasy novel: escapism, interesting characters, well thought out plotting, a tone that is not dark or grim, action rather than graphic violence, and a bit of humor. I enjoyed this book even more than its predecessor, “Thorn of Dentonhill”. I feel that the author’s writing skills continue to improve. In this book, he deftly juggles multiple simultaneous plot lines and points of view, without me becoming confused. I was especially impressed with a long action sequence in the middle of the book with events in more than one place at the same time that eventually converge. The pacing and switching from one viewpoint to another was timed just right for me – I didn’t cheat and skip ahead. I was riveted and excited. Similar to Terry Pratchett’s Ankh-Morpork novels, the Maradaine books take place in one city, with different sets of characters in four series. I am really looking forward to more books.
