    True Grit

Thanks to the Australian newspaper for bringing this bio to the attention of its subscribers. I am not a cyclist but I have lived and driven in Belgium. And been lucky to sightsee in some of the country sides where Cadel Evans raced. And of course I have viewed many races via the coverage of SBS television here down under. I throughly enjoyed this book. The anecdotes flow freely. Not forced at all. And I admire the way Cadel gives respect to those who guided his journey. But the memorable images in my mind are summed up in my takeaway- this was true grit.

    Riding a bike

It can be easy, or it can be hard. Conditioning yourself to race a bike is mental and physical. It’s training, eating and drinking, sleeping and recovering. Then there’s the equipment, and the other riders. It’s not easy, and it’s not supposed to be. 20 years of practise into just one event, means experience. Cadel has earned his retirement. A great career.
