  • A gripping psychological thriller

There is nothing better then when you finish a book that you absolutely loved, to read in the acknowledgments, that it is the start of a new series. This is the case with The Betrayal. For Divorce Attorney Olivia Sinclair life is good. She is about to retire from her job and has been happily married to Richard for 32 years. But on the day of her 62nd birthday, her whole world comes crashing down, when she is sent an email containing a video of her husband sleeping with another woman. But what’s worse, his mistress turns up dead and all evidence points to Olivia of committing the crime… I really loved Olivia’s character and my heart went out to her. Living a life where she thinks everything is perfect, only to have the rug pulled out from underneath her, is just heartbreaking. The secrets and lies she uncovers about Richard made my skin crawl. A real piece of work who’s only defence when confronted is “I have needs”. Nothing makes my blood boil more! Let me just say if was me in this situation it may not be the mistress’ murder you would be solving… Upon learning that this is going to be a series, I am curious to see what direction it will take given the events that occurred in this one. There is one thing I would love to see happen, which will be clear to you when you read the book. It is definitely something to look forward to and I hope we are not kept waiting to long. I’m hooked already and will be waiting very impatiently. This is the first book I have read from Terry Lynn Thomas and I think it’s clear that it will definitely not be my last. I love her style which I connected with immediately and how she was able to hold me captive from the very first word until the last! I throughly enjoyed how the mystery played out and was on the edge of my seat to see how it was all going to unfold. The Betrayal is a fast paced gripping read that I can not recommend highly enough. It is fraught with so much tension, suspense and with twists and turns to keep you guessing, the pages just turned themselves. I just could not get enough and it was a one sitting read for me. I hope this review makes you want to read this fantastic book. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. It was my absolute pleasure to be able to read and review The Betrayal.

  • Pages turn quickly

The Betrayal will have you hooked from the moment Olivia opens her email attachment and sees her husband having an affair with a young lady. How life changes in an instant. Olivia sends Richard packing, he is a nasty piece of work, and the next day is charged with murdering his mistress. Who can Olivia trust ? Not many I would say. Can she find out who the murderer is before she is sent to prison for life? The pages turn very quickly as you race to see what happens. I am excited to learn that this is the first in a series for Olivia . I will be first in line for book 2.

  • So Compelling!

Terry Lynn Thomas writes an entertaining mystery set in California about a divorce lawyer named Olivia Sinclair. In this first book of a new series, on the day of her 62nd birthday, Olivia receives her birthday gift from her husband, Richard - a platinum necklace complete with an antique skeleton key pendant studded with diamonds. Later in the day, she is sent an email containing the link to a video of his philandering. After enduring the surprise party he has organised for her she throws him out of their lovely home but then becomes the number one suspect when his mistress is murdered. As the evidence begins to mount she has to prove her innocence. Terry Lynn Thomas's novel contains a stirring mix of tension, mystery and suspense, and this offering, The Betrayal is a guilty pleasure type of story filled with drama, and unpersonable characters, barring Olivia who is a great, relatable protagonist. The assemblage of characters all have individual issues that are threaded throughout the story. As the tale unfolds things are not what they appear to be. Loyalties are tested and friendships are put to the test as Olivia struggles to prove her innocence. A rapid read, I'm eager for more in the series and I'm wondering what else Terry Lynn Thomas has up her sleeve for the main characters. In short, The Betrayal was a tempting, drama-filled treat. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
