  • a letdown

First, I do have to say I was very, very excited for this book. I truly love the Selection (we don't talk about the spinoff though...) and while I'm not a fan of love triangles I thought the one in the Selection was okay. In the end, the Selection was a series I read when I was very young and is probably one of the series that introduced me to YA; it has a special place in my heart. But I have to be honest here. This book... did not meet my expectations. The beginning was fine. For the longest time, this book was in the three stars department: not great, but not too bad. I had mostly neutral feelings. However, it definitely didn't hook me from the first word and I could already tell at 20% that it was not the kind of book I would stay up all night reading. Hollis was the first character I couldn't stand. I can't really explain it, but for the entire book she just rubbed me the wrong way. The King was fine until halfway through where he did (said) the one thing that made me hate him – although I'm pretty sure it was completely intentional. Delia Grace was one of the characters I liked until a certain point as well, and Silas just felt super bland to me. The romance was bland, the BOOK felt really bland. Silas' family was fine. The only character I ended up liking was Valentina, and she was actually present in the book for about 10% of it. Yikes. So long story short, besides the romance, one other thing really bothered me: the plot twist. Obviously, no spoilers, but I have to say it felt completely unnecessary and basically made the entire book pointless. By that point I didn't really care about the characters and it just left me feeling like "ok". Which is never ever a good sign. In the end, this book was rather a disappointment and I probably won't read the next book when it comes out. Sorry Kiera, I love you, but this book did not do it for me. However, that's just my opinion, and while I don't necessarily recommend it, you might still like this book! I just really didn't.

  • Best Emotional Roller-coaster EVER!

The best book I have read in a long time. At first I thought it was going to be super predictable. I was so wrong! SO MANY things happened that I never saw coming. It took me on the most emotional roller-coaster ever. Another great book by Kiera Cass.

  • .....

I start reading this book, and I was a little bit confuse by how it's start. At the beginning, I was wondering if I was reading the second book of a serie. When I really start going into the story,I was confused by the turn the story take at some point, and really sad about it. Personnally, I think that if the author will have finish the story a little before the end, it would have finish with a more happy ending and the readers will have more appreciate this book. I don't really like the end of the story, because it's pretty sad how it finish, and it let the reader supposed that it have a another book after. I think it's well writin, like every other books of Kiera Cass, but from every books I read of her, this is probably the one I most disike. I love the idea of it, but just really not the story, most of all the end of the story.

  • Enjoyable

Overall, I enjoyed the story. Characters at times seemed unrealistic and the timeline of events feels too rushed without knowing how much time has actually passed between events but great action and can't wait to read the sequel.

  • loved

I enjoyed this book. I found it to be a good conclusion to the storyline and I loved the relationships that Hollis formed throughout this book. I do hope for a third book as well though!
