    Fighting Sail series

I have only recently discovered the books of Alaric Bond and have been totally engrossed in all. Differing from other similar series the characters come and go rather than progress from lower deck to admirals flag and are very easy to relate to. Action sequences are very descriptive and show just how brutal this era of warfare at sea must have been. I trust this book isn't the last in this series.

New Heros Battle An Old Enemy

Bond continued to develop his Fighting Sail series by following his established historical context but, unlike other serialists, he carefully moves his author's spotlight to new leading characters, ones who had played a supporting role in previous episodes. In doing so he brings a true sense of realism and a feeling for the passage of time affecting those who people his story. Bond masterfully makes their personal growth and the unique challenges they face the foundation of the episode. Unlike many series that become tired and formula driven, Bond's remains fresh and exciting by creating new emotional attachments to his well-developed cast of characters. This Number 9 episode is a wonderful example of the author's style and is a must read for lovers of historical novels.
