  • Pepper Winters' has done it again!

5 Stars!!! “Years might’ve flowed between us but whatever it was that drew, linked, and bound us in school was still there. Only this time...it was stronger than a hum, deeper than a puddle, darker than any nightmare.” Wow!! I don’t think I have ever met anyone as intense as Gilbert Clark!! The whole time I was reading this my whole body was just so wound up! He kept me on the edge of my seat, and I seriously want to know how authors can make up characters that completely impact us readers! He will affect you the entire story! And good gosh can he f**k!!! I think he took over Christian Grey’s line when he said.. “I don’t make love... I f**k. Hard”. O. M.G!!! That first scene!! My goodness!! It was so INTENSE!! Who am I kidding, every scene with them like that was intense! I know, I know, I’ve used that word a few times regarding The Body Painter himself, but there’s just no other way to describe this specimen of a man!! He’ll definitely drive all women crazy!! I'm sure he'll also bring you to your knees. He’s just that good!! Pepper Winters continues to release some amazing stories. Some readers are even comparing this to The Ribbon Duet. But honestly? For me, there’s just no comparison. Not because one blows the other out of the park, but because they are completely two different stories. Even though The Ribbon Duet is still my all time favorite, I have loved everything that she has written since I started her Indebted Series. So take it from me... she did not disappoint with this release! I just know the wait for the conclusion to The Body Painter is going to be nail-biting! But... so worth the wait!! ~Juls

  • Beautiful, twisted and frustrating

Three and a half This is the first in what appears to be a duology and it’s every bit as twisted as Tears of Tess which was such a groundbreaking story. Here we meet Olin who is down on her luck and desperate enough to respond to an advert for a life model. The artist turns out to be Gil the boy who broke her heart at school but amidst the turmoil of meeting again Olin discovers that Gil has dark secrets and now they are putting Olin in danger ! This was beautiful, twisted, frustrating and everything I’ve come to expect from this talented author. The constant push pull routine between the couple could give anyone whiplash but the tension and suspense was flawless. Yes I had a slight idea but the ultimate revelation on the last page was absolutely jaw dropping ! Expect insane chemistry, emotional prose, flashbacks that truly do enhance everything and a dark underbelly to the story that’s insanely chilling. My only regret is that I just didn’t actually like Gil and yes I know he’s torn and at a crossroads but at times he felt so weak particularly when compared to Olin and everything she has survived. Not my favourite book by this author but one I’m sure many will be desperate to read. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

  • The Body Painter

Wow, just wow. After the Faible Of Happiness trilogy I was already hooked on Pepper's books. So I was really curious about this one. And it didn't disappoint. Gil is so mysterious, in his behavior too. Can't wait how this story continues.

  • I was hooked, and the narration was great!

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧 This book left new with more questions than answers! I've saw a couple of reviews claiming that it was darker than Pepper Winter's usual shades of dark, so imagine my surprise when the only "dark" thing was the mention of abuse? (Not that this isn't bad... But I was actually scared of what I would find here 😂) There are a few things to be considered dark, but all on the lighter side... At least on this first book. Gil is definitely tormented by his past and his abusers, but everything is so closed up with him, that until the end, we don't know who is his tormentor in the present... It's just a guess that it's still the same as in his past memories. The book is told between past, with Gil's POV, and present, with O's POV. The past is were the truth lives, but the present is were Gil is still chained to his abusers secrets... One of them is delivered at the end, but that was not a surprise at all, after so many breadcrumbs. I loved the writing and the secrets, and I couldn't stop listening, cause I needed to know what was going on as much as O needed, But there's lots of repetitive scenes with the push and pull between Olin and Gil that could've probably been reduced to half of it. Anyway... I can't wait to see how this tangled mess will be solved in the next book! 🎧 About the Audiobook Narration 🎧 Narrated by Felicity Foster and Will M Watt. I adored this narration! It's my favorite type of dual narration, when they exchange places even on dialogues! No one needs to make different gender voices. They switch even on the other character POV. Both narrators are British, and it was really well done!

  • Two Different Brush Strokes

WARNING Major Cliff Hanger and revelations grace the last few pages. This is my first reading of Pepper Winters' work. The two main characters in Master of Trickery - The Body Painter are Gil and Olin. They start out as two teenagers trying to fit in and finding their soul mates in each other. But... whereas Olin is Light; Gil is Dark. Reader cannot help but be in love with Olin and all of her empathy for others. Gil really switches from a poor abused teen to an abused adult with SECRETS too horrible to reveal to Olin. There are some sexual scenes along with a very graphic violent scene that made this reader shiver. When #2 comes out I will put everything else down I am reading and jump into it immediately. "A copy of this book was provided by author via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
