  • Fun!

I thought that this was a fun read and I really enjoyed it. The burn is slow, but chemistry certainly sizzles as Hannah and Jack's story unfolds. The banter is clever and the story entertaining. A solid blend of drama, emotion, humor and heart fuels this book that reads smoothly and easily. This is my independent, impartial review.

  • A Fun Light Humorous Read!

Do you need a book that will have you laughing and entertained throughout? Hannah is a body guard who has to be knowledgeable and understand her surroundings in order to protect. She is a second degree black belt. When she is assigned to a movie star, he questioned why she is so small. After all body guards are supposed to big men, right? When she proves herself, he accepts her as his bodyguard, but one caveat is she has to pretend to be his girlfriend. Will she successfully complete this assignment, so she can win the London assignment that she is competing for against her ex boyfriend? This book is fun, light, and will even have you laughing at times! A perfect book to take on vacation!

  • 10 stars!

I would give The Bodyguard 10 stars if I could - I absolutely loved it! I was expecting the usual romance using the celebrity/non-celebrity trope, but I should have known that anything written by Katherine Center would not qualify as the “usual”. Funny, heartwarming, and SO romantic, The Bodyguard has depth and a little twist at the end, that was just right. Thank you NetGalley for my copy, my comments and opinions are my own.

  • Action-packed and funny!

The Bodyguard has been receiving a lot of pre-publication hype and i can see why! It has great character development, an engaging storyline, and sends a powerful message of determination and resilience. I loved it! The Bodyguard reinforces my love of Women’s Fiction. Hannah Brook’s character is resilient, motivated and a little quirky. She isn’t what one considers to be your typical brawny bodyguard. What she lacks in physical appearance she more than makes up for in her ability to think and act quickly. Throw in her expertise in martial arts and you’ve got one tough woman. Hannah hasn’t had the ideal childhood and has recently lost her mother, boyfriend and best friend. After a mandatory month away from the office, her first assignment is initially a little disappointing. It doesn’t send her to an exotic location like she’s used to but instead protecting movie star Jack Stapleton right in her home state of Texas. It is a little different than her normal assignments however. Jack’s mother has been diagnosed with cancer and he doesn’t want to concern his family with his need for a bodyguard. So to make the situation as relaxed as possible, Hannah must pretend she is Jack’s girlfriend. Before they know it, Hannah and Jack are thrown together living with his parents for several weeks. The story is action-packed, funny and highly entertaining. The reader cannot help but feel for both Hannah and Jack as their backstories are slowly disclosed. I love that both Hannah and Jack evolve throughout the book, arriving stronger than what they were at the beginning. I look forward to reading more from this author. 4.5 stars I received an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  • Delightful, endearing, witty - a must read!

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley for an Advance Readers Copy. All comments and opinions are my own. All I needed to know was that this was written by Katherine Center, and I had to get my hands on a copy. The other K. Center books that I’ve read have been 5 stars for me, and this was no exception. Hannah Brooks is an Executive Protection Agent (in other words: a bodyguard), hired - along with her team - to protect gorgeous movie star Jack Stapleton. Hannah looks like a mousy piano teacher, and the last person you would expect to know how to shoot a gun like a sharpshooter or throw a 250 pound linebacker to the ground with her bare hands. Jack is an outrageously sexy superstar actor, who is every woman’s dream boyfriend. I pictured Hannah as Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality or While You Were Sleeping and Jack as Paul Rudd (People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2021) or actor Patrick Dempsey. Jack needs protection because he is being followed by a crazy stalker. He wants to spend time with his ill mother at the family’s Texas ranch but no one can know he’s got a stalker, or that Hannah is his bodyguard. So she poses as his girlfriend. (Of course). They both agree it’s just an act for Jack’s family, but it’s doubly difficult for Hannah as she has just gotten dumped by her boyfriend, who left her for her best friend – both of whom are also on the surveillance team. This might sound like a corny set up, but the writing is excellent, the characters well-drawn, the banter witty AND clever, and the relationship quickly becomes endearing. Some parts of the plot are predictable in a comfortable, enjoyable way, and then a couple of twists come along to kick this novel up several notches beyond lightweight chick-lit. Due to Hannah’s family background, she has issues concerning grief, loss, love, and trust. She is commendable at compartmentalizing, which makes her a superior bodyguard. But the reader is privy to her thoughts and emotions - and it’s those thoughts and emotions that make this a meaningful, substantial novel. I highly recommend this feel-good read that works well as a beach book or an anytime novel.
