    Edmund's Story!

Edmund was found severely injured at Waterloo. His body was healed but his mind and soul remained tortured. The only thought that brought him peace was of his Sarah. Sarah mourned the loss of her love, Edmund. She knew she had to think of the future, if only for the sake of their unborn child. Returning, after being assumed dead at Waterloo, Edmund takes everyone by surprise. When he storms in on the wedding between his friend, the Duke and Sarah, she and Edmund are shocked. Sarah because Edmund is alive and Edmund because Sarah is obviously pregnant! The story that follows is pure Erica Ridley, touching, romantic, frustratingly stubborn characters and total entertainment! Standalone page turner. Received book free for honest review.

    Simply excellent!

THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE is a love story for the ages, and Erica Ridley shines brighter than ever! Brigadier Edmund Blackpool was presumed dead in the war against Napoleon, leaving poor Sarah Fairfax alone, unmarried, and unfortunately pregnant. Her childhood friend, the Duke of Ravenwood proposed marriage, and she accepted for the sake of her unborn child. But as they had gathered with a few friends to get married, Edmund bursts into Ravenwood’s estate where the wedding was under way… THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE is book 5 in the splendid Dukes of War series, I have loved every previous book, and this might be the best one so far! I had been waiting a long time for Sarah’s story and it exceeds my wildest expectations, although it did not turn out the way I expected. Ms. Ridley concocted a very ingenious plot with clever twists, all of them plausible. THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE relates the story of young newlyweds, a young family in the Regency era, and I don’t believe I’ve ever read anything like it before, because the Blackpools aren’t rich, far from it. It also deals with Edmund’s adaptation to civilian life after the dreadful experience of war. THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE is superbly written, the prose is flawless, and the dialogues sound very realistic. Readers who have not read the previous books should not worry, because the necessary background information is subtly woven in by the author. THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE is a very quick read; I read it in one sitting because I simply couldn’t stop. The story is riveting, the characters supremely engaging, and character development is stellar. Ms. Ridley conveys the Sarah and Edmund’s emotions so well, I had tears in my eyes several times. I also loved the details of everyday life, such as a carriage accident, and there is an absolutely sublime seduction scene. THE BRIGADIER’S RUNAWAY BRIDE is one of the best historical romances I have ever read because Edmund and Sarah’s love story feels so real. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    I liked Sarah.

I liked Sarah. What I enjoyed the most about her was that she despite having the rug pull out from under her feet numerous ties she refused to allow others to dictate her life. She was a character that was full of surprises and that is what grabbed and held my attention. The anatomy of a great story at least for me is that it is engaging and hard to walk away from. This was those two things and more. I received a copy of The Brigadier's Runaway Bride in exchange for an honest review.

    Book 5

I enjoyed this novel. She's getting ready to marry another when her love comes back from the grave. They have some surprises and challenges and through love and determination become a happy family. I enjoyed the plot line, characters, steamy romance, and how some emotions are brought into play.

    The power of love

This has got to be the best in this series and it was the last one that I had left to read, so what a pleasant surprise. I loved how Sarah and Edmund each had their own doubts and hurdles to overcome and the manner in which they did. This showed both their weaknesses and their strengths and the power of their love. The narration by Stevie Zimmerman is fantastic and really added 'colour' to this story. I feel I can safely recommend this series as beautiful, stand-alone love stories that will hold your attention and entertain with very real situations filled with love, the overcoming of hardships and merriment endearing you to the characters and their stories. Enjoy !
