  • Nail biting read

The Cabin in the Woods is a turn the pages as quickly as you can all while holding your breath for Rose as she hides out in the cabin type of read. The book cleverly goes from past to present as Rose's story unfolds. There are twists and turns along with red herring or too. I cheered Rose on, I cried with her and I admired her. This is only my second Sarah Alderson book shame on me so I am off to read a few more . Get your copy, clear your schedule and hope no one disturbs you as you read The Cabin in the Woods.

  • Amazing Book!

Sarah Alderson's intriguing new novel, The Cabin in the Woods, will hook you from the very first page of this gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller. The strong female characters had me cheering for them despite some heartbreaking scenes in the novel. The Cabin in the Woods is an excellent book I highly recommend. Once I started reading, I could not put down this dramatic work by Sarah Alderson. I finished it in one night! In this emotional novel, the author knocks it out of the ballpark with her heartfelt writing style and plot twists. The Cabin in the Woods puts a powerful spin on mystery! The Cabin in the Woods is available on July 7th. Thank you, NetGalley and Avon Books UK, Avon, for the opportunity to review this extraordinary book! Your kindness is appreciated.

  • A Balanced and Engaging Thriller

4 stars Sarah Alderson does not disappoint in this newest thriller (which can also be called women's fiction, since I'm starting to believe that these unfortunate circumstances that so many women experience in thrillers are much more common than I'd hope). Rose, the m.c., has a particularly difficult childhood, and her memories of the specific circumstances surrounding her upbringing help readers immediately want to root for her. She has experienced no real displays of love or even basic caretaking, and between the need to be scrappy for her own survival and her intense feelings of responsibility for her younger sister, Daisy, it's no surprise that Rose enters adulthood with overweight baggage. She undoubtedly pays some hefty fees for that. When Rose meets Ryan one night, she quickly gets caught up in a fairy tale that takes a turn or two. For me, this is a really balanced read. The movement between various past times and the present keeps the narrative flowing, and the ways in which the important information gets disseminated help readers stay engaged and understand various characters' motivations. One aspect that I particularly enjoy here is that there is fairly limited processing. Something bad happens or comes to light, and the characters react but do not spend forever thinking about why and how; there's more motive to survive than therapize, and I find this a refreshing approach in relation to what I have been reading in this genre lately. The small point of frustration is that there are some convenient situations that seem extremely implausible at times, but honestly, this is often half the fun of a thriller: towing that line between creeping suspense and burgeoning smirks. Overall, I enjoyed this read and found the ending particularly satisfying not necessarily because of the actual outcomes but because of the ways in which they unfold. I remain an Alderson fan and eagerly anticipate what comes up next.

  • A real page-turner!

What a fantastic page-turner this was and it definitely deserves more than 5 stars! This story covered such a wide array of emotions as I read it. I was scared for Rose and her sister, Daisy, when they were growing up and mad at their parents for the harm they were causing them. I was sad and weepy in other parts of the book. I was furious at Rose's handsome husband, Ryan, for all the ugly things he was doing to her to keep her quiet. I read this book is record time because I simply could not and did not want to put it down. Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC of this very powerful book that I highly recommend to anyone who loves a great thriller.

  • Hard to put down

Read this one over the course of a day and a half. Every time I put it down I would find myself picking it back up and saying just one more chapter. The story hooked me from the opening chapter: a woman hiding out in a secluded cabin the woods, paranoid that someone might be watching her, almost reluctant to run into town for supplies because…she’s worried the police might still be looking for her! Why are looking for her? What has she done? What’s her story? Author Sarah Alderson does a fantastic job, jumping back and forth in time, teasing out the details of Rose’s ordeal. It’s an excellent thriller with great characters and a gripping storyline. Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an eARC of The Cabin in the Woods.
