Recommend to an US history fan...

The author has created an extremely accurate portrayal of the hard life that lived in the late 19th century in Florida. The struggles and trials of Amos are well crafted and leaves the reader with the feeling of suffering and pain and the smells of the street. If you really enjoy the detailed life that accurately portrays the classic Protestant work ethic, then this book is for you. The tale of Amos is one that will leave a reader happy they have lived the life they have. From my perspective, The Calling of Amos Puckett is a tale that makes the book of Job read like a Monty Python skit. Amos has a moral compass in him that carries him through challenge after challenge. Would that every person could find this kind of courage then the world would be a better place. As Amos journeys through his life, he intercepts key aspects of history in the area bordering the Gulf of Mexico. The author is able to seamlessly introduce Amos into famous parts of history so that it reads like history and not fiction. You can't help but cheer on the spirit of Amos and this book will fulfill anyone's need to increase their own belief in the human spirit. An incredibly well-written book that will take the reader on an adventure they won't soon forget. A superb book for someone housebound during this time period. Highly recommended to the high-risk adventurer who can't get out and do that right now. Actually, I recommend to any fan of US History and any fan of humanity. Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My Rating: 5 stars
