Deepens our understanding of the era

Without getting to deep in the weeds, Dolnick gives us enough of the science to understand Newton's challenge and accomplishment. More important, he describes the era's events and attitudes for us to understand the cultural context in which Newton's discoveries, and science in general, had significance. While I would have enjoyed learning more details about the man, his reclusive nature might have made that impossible for the author. Finally, the narrative flows smoothly, the language is clear.
