  • Consumed by scalzi

If at the end of the Collapsing Empire you were on the edge of your seat wondering about the Nohamapetan rebellion at End, let me set your mind at ease-- you still won't know how that turned out at the end of the Consuming Fire. Meanwhile back at Hub, the Nohamapeten draw the Emperox's cousins into their wicked plans along with just about everyone else on Hub. You'll need a scorecard to keep track of all the double-dealing and scheming-- and betrayal. Marce learns more about Flow physics than he ever thought possible and makes a surprising discovery. Well, more than one, but who's counting. Kiva keeps on doing what Kiva does best. The who's may surprise you or maybe not. The Emperox must deal with all of this and prepare to save as many lives as possible before the Flow collapses. If you liked the Collapsing Empire you'll love the Consuming Fire. More Space Opera dramedy from a master.

  • Consuming Fire

Great second instalment. Great returning characters, new characters and plot twists. Can’t wait for book 3 ( but sadly will have to wait ).

  • Consuming Fire

Superb story with a realistic story environment. The military action was believable and as a combat officer was consistent with the real combat world.

  • Goes nowhere fast

There's a lot going on and it's modestly entertaining, but like the first in the series, it's short on conclusions. The language used seems meant to hook teenagers with familiarity but it comes off awkward and hamfisted more often than not. In the end it's a shallow bit of escapism that asks very little of the reader. I wasn't expecting anything challenging or intellectual, but the whole story has less depth than I'm used to from Scalzi.
