    The Coronation Quest

I enjoy the Quest series which capture a time in history which is just at the edge of my living memory. This novel, set in the early fifties, is full of the charm of period detail, the birth of the television age, the excitement of the coronation, the elegance of the art world. The characters of Flora and Oliver are delightful, although I find the device of switching back and forth between them in first person narration to be at times confusing. Their voices are too similar, despite the author's attempts to make them unique. I am also not convinced by the depiction of the British spy system. Flora and Oliver are left to stumble around with no information or little information and seemingly are not trusted to know anything. It is unclear what the spy agency wants of them at all. Nevertheless, I suspended disbelief for an escape into another world, and found it satisfactory.
