    Delightful

Prior to reading this book, I had read some reviews that were quite critical of Violet. Though she is self-deprecating in the unfortunate trope of female characters that don't realize their own worth, she is a fierce and amazing woman. And I think those other reviews were too harsh and critical (especially once more is known about her history). A good read and I love the tweaks to history and the history of science--enthralling, informative, and a delightful what-if

    Fascinating

And engrossing. A lovely romance wrapped up in an interesting scientific and social observation. The end notes about female contributions to science (and lack of recognition) are equally interesting.

    More than a historical romance

Courtney Milan pays tribute to early women scientists whose noble work frequently went uncredited and unremarked upon. Against that backdrop, I found her portrayal of the best friends to couple romance of the two protagonists quietly moving and poignantly inspiring, in the lengths they go to protect each other.
