  • The Dating Charade

The Dating Charade was a fantastically fun read. Melissa Ferguson takes her readers on an adventure with Cassie and Jett. I have to say that this is one of the most hilarious books I have read in a long time. I loved this sweet, clean and heartwarming story. It was so great getting to know these characters. There were so ups and downs throughout the book that I did not expect that made me intrigued and want to keep reading. I had no problem reading the whole book read in one sitting. It is that good. The Dating Charade is making it on my top ten list for 2019. I would give it one hundred stars if I could. I highly recommend it for all readers who need a good, clean laugh. I can not wait for the author to release another book to see where she will take her readers to next. Five plus stars. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

  • Fun story

This was a very emotional story for me. The things Cassie and Jett went through separately brought tears to my eyes at times. But there were funny moments and loving moments as well. The main characters and supporting characters were all people I’d be proud to call friends. The elderly pair, Edie and Donna Gene, gave me some chuckle moments too. Cassie keeps getting bum dates from a dating site but she wisely has an escape plan ready in case of a misfire. When she bumps into an old high school acquaintance, Jett, things begin to happen between them. Unexpectedly Cassie takes in three children that have been abandoned by their mother. At the same time Jett finds himself taking care of his nephews and niece that his sister practically drops on his doorstep. They each think the other dislikes children because of their dating profile. The fun starts when they both try to hide the existence of the children from each other. “Oh what a tangled web we weave!” I throughly enjoyed this novel. It was time well spent. The cover is quite eye catching too. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

  • Hilarious and heart-warming

A fantastic debut novel from Melissa Ferguson! The author’s writing style is easy to read and the book will have you laughing out loud at the hilarious encounters and events that fill the plot. But don’t let the humor and the light-hearted title of “The Dating Charade” fool you. The author addresses deep emotional issues involved in broken families and also highlights the sacrifice needed in loving and rearing children, whether blood-related or not. If you enjoy hilarious and heart-warming contemporary romance, you will love this book. Cassie, the director of center for disadvantaged girls, and Jett, a firefighter, are both relationship-shy for different reasons but end up hitting it off after a couple of hiccups. But their relationship is littered with trials thrown their way by children unwittingly landing in their homes, well-meaning friends and acquaintances meddling, and plenty of misunderstandings. After having been in their world, I’m hoping for a follow-up book or two about the other characters in this book, like Cassie’s best friend Bree and Jett’s roommate Sunny. I received a copy of the book from Thomas Nelson via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

  • THE DATING CHARADE by Melissa Ferguson

THE DATING CHARADE by Melissa Ferguson is the delightful, part time humorous – part time heart tugging story of Cassie Everson. After years of disastrous first dates and learning she’s unable to have children, she’s about to give up on the marriage, family, happily ever after scenario and decide to be happy with her life as it is. After all, she has a loving family and loves her job at Girls Haven considering all those that walk through the doors her girls – her children. That is until her ‘girls’ talk her into trying on-line dating one more time. Little did she know that a boy back from her school years would be the one that would pop up asking her for a date! Jett Bentley, a fire fighter, although dumped two years ago and not seriously dated since, is content with his life. That is until he figures out that most of his interaction with the opposite sex is when he’s called out regularly to two elderly woman’s house on some false pretense of needing assistance. As others around him are experiencing family life and having kids, he’s beginning to wonder if he might be missing out of something. On a fluke, he decides to check out an on-line dating service. On his first search, who does he spy but Cassie Everson, a girl from high school who he had a big crush for. Is this is opportunity to fulfill some of his daydreams from years ago? Their first meeting was a total disaster because, unawares to Cassie, her friend pretended she was Cassie and set up the meeting. However, sparks soon start to fly with friendly banter and flirting after Jett sent a Santa via a firetruck to bring gifts to all the girls and an envelope containing a background check on himself to Cassie warming her up to a possible date. Lack of communications and misconceptions start to break down this budding romance when Cassie becomes guardian and possible adoptee of three girls – one being a teenager, and Jett becomes guardian for this sister’s three small children. Each is unaware of the others situation. Can they work through their differences to see what really is in the other’s heart? What will become of the children? Will they find their happily ever after as well? THE DATING CHARADE is wonderful story whose pages touches on many important issues (like drug abuse, abandonment and child abuse) showing how many lives are affected by other’s choices. Melissa Ferguson manages the perfect mixture of romance, emotions, road blocks and humor to keep you turning pages in hopes of true love finding a way to bring not only two hearts together but homes and love to six glorious and deserving children. I found THE DATING CHARADE entertaining and a sheer delight to read. I would definitely recommend it!
