  • Rorschach test

The book asks compelling questions by showing, not lecturing about, the state of two parallel societies after an anarchist revolution. The pictures it paints are not polemical; it's not a book about answers but about questions that can arise when starting from very different political assumptions. Action and richer characterization kicks in about one third of the way through, so patience is rewarded.

  • Wish I had read it a decade ago

So many great passages that paint everyday learned behavior a new light and poses the question, am I egoizing?

  • One cannot go home, or live without

An excellent exploration of the implications of separation (partition ?). Both sides feel self-righteous and cheated. Of course, they are the same and the good and the bad in either are mirrored in the other.

  • A deserving classic

One of the great works of political fiction in the 20th century.
