    Dazzling adventures and romance!

The blurb intrigued me, the beginning of the story drew me right in, and then I became worried that THE DUKE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO was like the bodice-rippers I have heard about but never read. It’s all very black and white, while I prefer subtlety, and The Rook is a real bad boy, and quite terrifying. And wonder of wonders, Kerrigan Byrne accomplishes the impossible: I did not go in confidently, but she made me love a book that, had I followed my intuition, I might not have read, and I would have missed an amazing reading experience because Ms. Byrne made me feel, truly feel! Lorelai seems like the typical damsel in distress of fairytales: bullied by her horrible older brother Mortimer, ignored by her father, she finds solace in healing animals. When she finds Ash, beaten to a pulp and amnesic, she of course takes care of him, and they fall in love but never telling the other. When Lorelai sees him again, he has become The Rook, a heartless pirate. And I can hardly say how much he scared me! The characters are so incredibly well drawn, that I was afraid that he did not have a conscience and unsavoury things were bound to happen, and that’s where both Lorelai and The Rook surprised me to no end; what a delight! I hope the numerous mistakes of all sorts will have been taken care of upon publication, especially Lorelai’s age, that varies depending on the chapters: when she met Ash, was she 13, 14, or 15? Was Lorelai 33 twenty years later, because someone did not want a heroine to be 35? I also would have wished to see more of the fabulous Veronica. In any case, THE DUKE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO has everything you want: villains – some quite unexpected – fantastic plot twists, many heart-pounding moments, a terrific romance, and fabulous writing. Go in with an open mind, and you will be dazzled!

    Emotional read

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this story. This story takes you on an emotional ride. The pacing is excellent and there is always something happening to keep one turning the pages. The hero known as The Rook has been through a great deal and his transformation is intense. Lorelai, the heroine, has to reconcile the man he’s become with the man she knew when he returns into her life after many years. The hero and heroine have well developed backstories. The secondary characters are interesting and have interesting pasts as well.

Slow Burn, sweet and sensual romance

Slow Burn, sweet and sensual romance Kerrigan Byrne has become one of my favorite writers in historical romance. Once again she delivers a story rich in character and description in The Duke With The Dragon Tattoo and what an amazing experience reading Ash and Lorelai’s story. Though Ash is the name Lorelai gives the man who is found horribly beaten and half dead near an Ash tree, his identity remains a mystery throughout the book until towards the end when his memory is jolted awake. It is unbelievable what happens to this young man who is imprisoned, beaten, and left for dead. Lorelai who is 14 at the time, nurtures him to back to health, and both develop strong feelings of love and friendship. But Ash’s fate is heartbreaking and the time with Lorelai is cut short when her cruel brother, Mortimer, sells him to merchant seamen. Twenty long years and still without his memory of the past, an amazing story unfolds around this man who is known as The Rook. The story is complex and engrossing. We really don’t get that much romance until almost the end, but it is worth the wait. Throw in a hunt for treasure, tales of becoming a duke and amassing wealth, and a mutinous crew of pirates, and you get one heck of a story. Ms. Byrne’s storytelling is imaginative and rich in descriptive detail which makes it fascinating. I love how this ties to the other characters, Dougan and Argent, in the Victorian Rebels series. I received a copy from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

    Historical Romance

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo by Kerigan Byrne Victorian Rebels #6 At fourteen and eighteen a young woman and young man fall in love and think they will have forever together but nope…they will be separated for nearly two decades and in those years much will happen. The young girl will continue to suffer torment at the hands of her brother and the young man, without a memory, who has suffered much already will suffer even more. When kindhearted Lorelei Weatherstoke sees a body on the side of the road while traveling with her father and brother she has them stop, see if he still breathes and he is taken to their home to be treated for his horrific wounds. A year they spend together in innocent joy only to find themselves separated by a dastardly hand played by an evil person. A promise made by the boy now named Ash is one he plans to keep but for years he is unable to keep that promise. When he finally does return he has changed significantly with most of his softness seemingly gone forever. Whether or not the two will be able to find a way to a happily ever after is up in the air for a while but as with any good romance, and all in this series, it comes right in the end and the two do find a way to a happy ending. What I liked: * The overcoming of adversity * The strength of both lead characters * Finding out who “the boy” really is * The pirates with the kittens * The appearance of “the boy’s” old friends What I didn’t like: * Mortimer – evil incarnate – a sadist * The weak-willed spineless father of Mortimer and Lorelei * The twenty years endured by H/h * Poor Veronica’s situation with Mortimer * The pirate I thought might be good who really wasn’t * The time between books? Was it believable? Perhaps Did I like it? Yes Will I read more books in this series? Yes Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

    A Marvellous Regency Romance

Oh what a marvellous story ...I just loved & enjoyed reading " The Duke With the Dragon Tattoo" by Kerrigan Byrne....I was hooked to the book from the first page itself... The style of writing so brilliant that the intrigue , mystery of the story grips u from the start ...I have added Kerrigan to my favourite author in the Historical genre & regret as to why didnt i read any of her books before .... but am going to definitely correct my mistake and read more of her books....This book is the 6th installment in the Victorian Rebels series but can be read as a standalone... The story is divided in two parts ....It begins in Newgate prison....The hero Ash also known as ( The Rook ) in the 2nd part ...at the beginning when he's around eighteen , one night is beaten within an inch of his life and abandoned in a mass grave... the heroine Lorelia Weatherstoke is almost fifteen finds & saves him....she nurses him back to health.... Due to unseen circumstances Ash disappears one day & returns after 20 years as The Rook the most dangerous ,infamous pirate ...From here the story progresses ... The Rook or Ash has become very powerful & dangerous pirate but alsohas a hidden , shy side of his character which is only for Lorelia...he is determined to have justice, vengeance, retribution and Lorelia. ...she's shy and delicate, may seem like old spinster, crippled and week, but she has this amazingly strong side of her as well & an inner strength and a difficult family situation...There's murder, kidnaping, anger, disbelief, fear, passion, love, treasure hunting and even mutiny...all the ingredients to make a book successful .... The plot was fast paced, well developed ....the story well written ...scripted & presented ... it was a thrilling adventure full of love, romance, emotions, feelings , passion, action ....while reading you can actually visualize the story ...it will captivate you right till the end ... Superb penmanship Kerrigan ... it was a delight to read ... i read the book in one sitting so engrossing it was ...awaiting to read more books from your kitty... Thank you so much for this book ....
