The Empty Throne by Bernard Cornwell

It was a very good book, set in pre-unified England. At this time,England only consisted of 4 parts. It's about a power struggle, betrayal, loyalty, & a fierce band of men who would fight their own kin (& do!) to back a woman, Princess of the realm, all out of love, loyalty & honest belief she will be the best for the job. This in a time when women had no rights at all. Vikings, Danes, the Irish are listed are mentioned as English bands of warriors ultimate, despised enemies. Christianity has been introduced into Britain by this time & nearly everyone has converted, however, there are still a few who refuse to convert, still believing in the Vikings'/Norsemen's gods. Very interesting. Author has very excellent way of writing. He is fantastic & I'll definitely be reading ALL of his novels! !
