  • Emotional

4.5 star Review The Enigma (Unlawful Men #2) by Jodi Ellen Malpas The Enigma was well written and I quickly became invested in the story that Jodi Ellen Malpas wove. It was a gritty, at times dark book about ex cop Beau Hayley and James Kelly. After her mother dies it what is deemed an accident, Beau is at a crossroads. Convinced that it wasn’t an accident Beau doesn’t know what to do. Meeting James Kelly, a man who is seeking revenge for the death of his family, complicates both their lives. Beau is the daughter of the detective that hounded him before her death. On opposites sides of the law, lines will be crossed. You could feel the angst and pain of both Beau and James but the game they are playing may leave one or both of them dead. Both are seeking revenge and their pasts has woven them together. The attraction between them is intense but it is the emotional journey that they travel that really added an additional layer to this read.

  • Dark and Gritty

Book 2 in the Unlawful Men Series and this time it’s James Kelly that we get to swoon and fall head over hills for. Did you really believe Ms Malpas was only going to let you swoon over Danny Black. This is ex cop Beau Hayley and James Kelly’s dark and gritty romance, it’s a captivating tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first few pages to the final words. When her mother dies, Beau is determined to find out the truth, she never believed it was an accident but she isn’t sure which way to turn to get to the bottom of it. James Kelly is a man who’s about to make her life a whole lot more complicated because he is out for revenge for the death of his family so could this couple who are on opposite sides of the law bring peace to each other…… This is dark, it’s gritty, it’s emotional but it’s also a love story, the chemistry is scorching hot but it’s the characters depth that adds a whole different dimension to this well written story. Once again Ms Malpas has shown us that’s she is fast becoming the queen of darkness while also giving us light at the end of the tunnel.
