    Disappointing and sloppy

I have read a couple of other books by CL Taylor and enjoyed them. The Escape, like the others, was a page turner that kept me hooked. However, I felt the story wasn’t that exciting and it lacked the twists and turns that the quotes and reviews mentioned. I thought much was pretty predictable and altogether a bit flat; I just kept waiting for a final twist that didn’t arrive. The characters needed more work to develop them and make them more interesting. The big disappointment was how sloppy the writing was. There were errors that the author or her editors absolutely should have picked up. There is no excuse for these to slip through - people called the wrong name (several times); one secondary character’s name changed at one point, before reverting to her original name. Other points of sloppy writing was when an item being described moved location within a page; ailments cured themselves; tenses were mixed in paragraph; and facts not known by the main character suddenly were. My final rant is on a factual error – Chester is not in the north-east of England. In the acknowledgements, CL Taylor says she can only write two books a year. I suggest she just writes one a year, but writes it well without lots of mistakes that detract from the story. Don’t assume readers will read any rubbish – we’re not a stupid bunch!

    Absolutely AMAZING

The story has many twists and – when you read the book yourself, you will know what I am talking about, although you think you have figured everything out: you haven’t. Yes: some things were quite clear and others weren’t but … Some things I just did not see coming. This book is like a roller coaster. It keeps you tucked into your seat and takes you onto a bumpy ride, it gives you that weird feeling in your stomach, it makes your heart race and even though you see everything coming, you never know what is hiding behind the bend!
