  • Certainly not the finest in the series.

After the 4th book, this series sort of derails in the crime/ police procedural department. It's become more of a romance/drama with the actual policing/murder solving relegated to the role of a side hussle. The author uses the same trope for solving the murders in every book wherein Poppy finds out at the last minute who the murderer is either by sheer accident or an obvious missed clue since the beginning of the book. Not exactly what I'd call a bright team. This particular story just did not make sense at all. The identity of the murderer dropped so out of the blue that I felt like I was reading the investigation of a completely different murder all this time. What this book and series is good for though is the relationship development of the two protagonists Alex and Poppy as well as the amateur psychoanalysis of characters in each story. I quite enjoyed reading Poppy's thoughts on her interactions with the suspects. And only reason I continued reading the series was to follow their relationship arc! Let's just say I am crushing on Alex big time 😁.

    Thanks for your feedback!
