    very intriguing

This is a very dark story. As with both books by this author I enjoy that he sees clearly the difference between fantasy and reality and the afterwords by him give you a deep insight in this and also helpful addresses for those, for whom this is no fantasy, but stark reality. This story changes between the present where the heroine is stuck with a kind of assassin/avenger because she witnessed a murder and her past which shows as the story unfolds, which she is like she is. The story is written from her view so we only get glimpses in why the assassin behaves like he does. For any person who was ever threatened or in a hostage situation this book will not be fun. And honestly also for everyone else "fun" is the wrong description. But although there are a lot of flashbacks there is a lot of suspense and I really liked reading this story. I enjoyed it even more than "The Lost" which precedes this story, but both can be read as standalone books.
