    Not a happy book

It's 1955 and Iris is 16,newly married to US serviceman Bob, boarding a ship for a rough 10 day ocean crossing and leaving her family behind in Britain. Bob's German family in Chicago aren't happy with Iris and depression begins to devour her after the birth of their son, Wayne. Bob sends Iris back to England for a visit with her family and she dreads returning to the US. Physical abuse leads to divorce and the support from other war brides helps Iris get through life in Chicago. Her second marriage is another disaster except for the birth of her daughter Robin. Iris' determination to succeed is all that keeps her family together. A very depressing life of someone too young and naïve to marry a stranger, much less move to a foreign country alone. So happy to catch a glimpse of a happy third marriage in the end notes of the book. Iris' experience is not like ones I have heard from war brides in Canada.

    The gi bride

What a story!!! I guess when one married so young and lacks life experiences because of it, lif throws up some curly ones. Hard to believe Iris made such poor choies with men. A good open and honest self exposure just the same.
