The Girls Next Door - Absolutely Brilliant!!

Firstly, I should admit to being a HUGE fan of Mel Sherratt's books! From the very first one I ever read, I knew instantly I'd found a rare quality in Mel, knowing I'd enjoy anything she chose to write, and this has proved true enough, whether it be her series with DS Allie Shenton, or The Estates series, I've absolutely adored them all and would happily read them time and time again. The Girls Next Door has a new female protagonist in Eden, the Dr Marten wearing Detective. Single mum to teenage daughter Casey, she is instantly likeable and obviously well respected amongst her team. We also get introduced to plenty of new characters, including Laura, Eden's sister and her daughters, Sarah and Jess and I hope we will see these again in future books as I have enjoyed the friendship between the sisters. I'm very aware that this has only just been released, and obviously highly anticipated, so I'm very conscious of spoiling the story for other readers so it wouldn't be too fair to give anything away. If you love settling down with a good, gritty book and getting sucked in, then this is definitely the book for you! Although Eden is the main character, there are others who I hope will appear in future books and it was lovely to see an old favourite, Josie Mellor make an appearance. It's been far too long since we last had one of Mel's gritty books, so I'm really hoping we won't have to wait so long for the next one!

    Liked it

This was a fairly light read. The story moves quickly and easily. I found some things confusing but I think this was more from editing mistakes than anything else. I liked the characters and the plot was good. I think the author did a great job of describing how teenagers behave, the things they'll do and say, etc. While this wasn't the most suspenseful book I've ever read and I never really was worried about how things would turn out, it was an enjoyable read.

Childish and feeble. Not for intellectuals.

Couldn't force myself to finish this rubbish. It's written for a grade nine student with limited vocabulary. The staccato sentences are childish and the plot cumbersome. Don't waste your time on this one.

    The girl next door

I found this type of book to be exciting ,this is not typical of what I usually read. So I would recommend you give it a read as well, I think you will enjoy it as much as I did. Good job, can't wait to read another.Keep them coming

    Just ok

No real suspense unfortunately. Writing was ok - couldn't really connect with the characters. Bit dissapointed
