    Thanks for your feedback!

A interesting and different type of romance.

I’ve read a few others books by Kimberly Trouette and loved them. I liked this book but it took me a while to really get into the story. Once I did though, I wanted to read it straight through. Luke is really conflicted about keeping a medical clinic open in Haiti and his friend pretty much forces him to go and see the place for himself. He is almost immediately captivated by the clinic’s founder, Dr. Ysabeau Morno. This only adds to his dilemma of closing the clinic. This book was not quite like any other I’ve read. It’s not really a paranormal story but there are definitely paranormal elements to it. There are some very interesting Haitian characters: a Voodoo priestess of the dark and one of the light. There is quite a bit of suspense in this story, along with the romance. I purchased a copy of this book in the SEALs of Summer 2 boxed set.

    Great unusual romance

Luke Carter is an ex-SEAL who quit so he could take care of his gravely ill daughter. He works for an organization that invests in medical research trials that traditional medical groups won't handle. One of the trials isn't working so he goes to Haiti to close it down but it doesn't go as he planned. As he approached the doctor's office, he is beaten by a group of thugs and left for dead. The doctor, Ysabeau Morno, found him and nursed him back to life. I really enjoyed reading this unusual story. The story line was quite unique with the Guardians funding medical trials around the world and the wonderful writing making what could have been complex situations all very clear and easy to follow. Throw in a bit of romance and this is a great read. I loved the characters. Luke, being an ex-SEAL, is a very strong and competent man who cares deeply about his daughter. He does have a lot of secrets but they just help make the story even better. Ysabeau was a kind and caring doctor who was concerned about what would happen to her patients if the funding for her trials was stopped. The funniest characters were Ysabeau's Gran, The Great Mambo Priestess of Light and her Godmother, Deolina, a black magic priestess. The things they "saw" and did with voodoo and spells were scary but funny. I'm so glad I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is a great story that I highly recommend.
