Excellent overview of the European campaign

If you are going to read only one book about the campaign in Northern Europe, this is the one. Some areas of the conflict may not get a lot of detail, but that is understandable, given how wide the coverage is. The writing is captivating, keeping it interesting and relevant. I personally found the author's description of the bickering between the generals in each instance of great interest. I already knew of the dislike between Montgomery and Patton, but to see how many of the other leaders didn't get along with each other was eye opening. In all, for anyone who has an interest in World War 2, a must read!

This is a well written "5 star" true story.

Rick Atkinson provides a facinating and I feel, unbiased account of the successes, failures and internal politics of Allied Command during WWII. Great reading for history buffs and anyone with compassion for the dedication and suffering of those who served.

    Well documented and

A well written account of WWII from the Normandy Invasion forward. Atkinson brings out details that make the history intriguing and fresh.
