  • A twist you won't see coming!

The Happy Couple is the mystery of what happened to a Will, who disappeared one afternoon without a trace, leaving his cellphone and wallet on his desk. Haunted by his mysterious disappearance, his wife, Jo, struggles to move on with her life. Encouraged by her closest friends to take a vacation, Jo signs up for a house-sitting service and applies for a position after seeing pictures of Will on the mantle in the advertisement. What happens then is a roller-coaster of twists and turns, ultimately ending in probably the biggest and most unexpected twist of all. Samantha Hayes does a masterful job of taking the reader into the story, making them desperate for answers of why Will disappeared, but even the most astute reader probably won’t anticipate the final twist. To me, that’s the sign of a truly great mystery/suspense/thriller, when the author is able to completely stump her readers. I would definitely recommend The Happy Couple to fans of domestic suspense. They won’t be disappointed!

  • A great read

I thoroughly enjoyed Samantha’s last book Date Night and was looking forward to seeing what she was going to come up with next. I am pleased to say that The Happy Couple is a great read to get lost in and as the blurb suggests, is nail-biting and gripping! I was on the edge of my seat as Samantha pulled me into Jo and Will’s world and its drama. Samantha has crafted a thrilling plot that had me completely hooked just from reading the blurb. It is an intense story as Jo’s world comes crashing down around her when her husband Will mysteriously disappears. Cut to a year later and there is still no sign of what happened to Will, but when Jo applies for a house sitting job she is shocked to discover a picture of Will on the mantlepiece of one the homes. The plot then thickens as the saying goes… Each of the characters in the story has something to hide and I enjoyed peeling back the layers to uncover their secrets. My heart went out to Jo and I could feel her pain through the pages. At times it was hard to read as she falls deeper and deeper into depression and her obsession with finding out what happened to Will. The rest of the cast have all been well written and are believable in roles that they play. Samantha is a great storyteller and has a real gift of taking the reader in one direction, while slowly working her wicked ways in the background. Just when you think you have figured it out, in she comes to pull out the rug from underneath you and takes the story in another direction! I love when an author does this and Samantha is one of the best at it. The Happy Couple is a slow burn, but once it kicks it does so full steam ahead. I was furiously turning the pages on my kindle, as I just had to know what was going to happen and I was not disappointed! It was a pleasure to read and review The Happy Couple which I recommend. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Samantha Hayes for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Happy Couple which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

  • Best thriller of 2020

Well from the start, this book had me on my toes. I thought I had it all figured out. There were lots of puzzling parts throughout the story. I kept thinking.. I know what's going on here.. Then I would be proven wrong. Lots of loose ends all the way through were tied together in the end. There was one piece of the book I worked out from the start but the rest was a huge surprise. Lots of unexpected things happening and people doing things kept the suspense of the story going until the last page. The characters were believable although Jo did get on my nerves a little bit at the beginning. I give this 5 stars and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read this advance copy in exchange for my honest review

  • Not What I Was Expecting

Thank you Netgalley (and the publisher) for providing me a free copy of the book in exchange for a honest review. This was my first book by this author. I really enjoyed the concept of the book and wanted to know what happened next. I wasn’t expecting where the story went. I did struggle with some of the inner dialogue, following along with what’s being thought vs. said aloud. I also had a difficult time relating to the relationships between some characters through out the book. I’m still unsure of how I feel about how the book was ended, but I do believe that is a sign the book is making you think about after you’ve finished it. I will look forward to reading more by this author.

  • Read it in one sitting!

The Happy Couple By: Samantha Hayes Pub. Date: May 6, 2020 I read this book quickly, it was gripping and I needed to figure out the twist. I enjoyed Samantha Hayes writing style in The Reunion so I was thrilled when I received this copy through Netgally for review. The Happy Couple is domestic suspense about a husband that suddenly disappears. The story takes place a year after his disappearance and his wife Jo is not handling it well. Her best friend Louise desperately wants her to move on and her parents agree. Jo doesn’t know if he left on purpose, was in an accident, or is terrified that he might be dead. She can’t come to grips with him just up and leaving….she thought they were a happy couple. I read a lot of domestic suspense and this one was pretty good. My only complaint was that Jo’s conversations with her missing husband got annoying. I started thinking she really need a mental health evaluation. This thriller didn’t disappoint! I did not fully guess the plot twists, and there were a few. I do wish that the action of the story was spaced out a little more. Otherwise I think if you are a fan of domestics, you will enjoy this one!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy for my honest review.
