WOW!!! This book took my breath away. Not your typical love story but one of the best I've read, and probably my favorite DL Roan book to date. This is Daniel & Cade’s story, from the day they met until the present. I wasn’t more than a few pages in before I was literally laughing out loud. And I laughed a lot. But I cried even more. Such a fantastic story. Yes, this is a MM story, but it is also, or maybe more so, a love story. And like any great love story, you are going to cry. I sure did, many times. But this has got to be one of my favorite books of the year. The Hardest Goodbyes can be read as a stand-alone but I highly recommend reading not only the other books in the series first but also Saving Redemption. You will definitely get so much more out of the story!!!

    True Love At Its Best!

The Hardest Goodbyes, The McLendon Family Book 5, is AMAZING! Although, it’s a tear jerker, I truly loved it. It delves into the story of Cade McLendon, Grey, Matt, and Mason’s uncle, and Daniel, whose relationship has been alluded to in prior books. The two met during the Cold War in Germany when Cade was a spy and Daniel was in the military. The plot was very interesting and full of suspense. The romance between these two is told beautifully by Ms. Roan as it spans the decades until present time. Their chemistry is instantaneous and, as well as their love, lifelong. Daniel has been through so much with his daughter, trying to raise her and deal with the tragedies in his life, while fighting his desire and need for Cade, while Cade was always in the background waiting for Daniel. Circumstances make it so that Daniel needs Cades help, and I truly enjoyed reading how they finally came together in Grasslands. I liked reading more about all of the McLendons. Hazel, Cade’s sister, and her three husbands serve as a good example of unconventional relationships at their best. This story drew me in so deep I was turning pages until dawn because I literally could not put it down. It is heart wrenching while at the same time heartwarming. You might want to have a box of tissues handy before starting this. But even with the sadness of real life struggles, it is so worth it to get a look into this truly beautiful romance between these two great characters. The drama is intense, but love shines through. This entire series is great and worth reading. Jonah, Grey, Matt, Mason and Gabby’s son, reappears in this one and I got enough of a teaser of his story that I can’t wait to read his book when it releases and find out what that poor boy has been up to. Ms. Roan can really put her characters through the ringer, but she always redeems herself with a beautiful romance. I absolutely loved this book and cannot recommend it enough. It’s definitely on my keeper shelf. Even if you haven’t read the other books in the series, there is enough back story to catch up without being repetitious. Be warned though, it is a M/M romance and very HOT!
