A fascinating story of art, history, and family

Memoir, biography, history, art history. Fin-de-siecle Paris and Vienna. The devastating impact of the Nazi Anschluss in Vienna...outright theft in the guise of "Aryanization"...I found the book variously amusing, horrifying, sublime, and wretchedly sad. Always, I found it well written and very expressive of the writer's inner process and emotion. The netsuke are a vehicle to explore the writer's illustrious family history. I found the story fascinating and unique. Read it.
