  • Great Characters

It took a while for me to warm up to this story. I don't really care for Steampunk stories that much and this tale just seemed to be Steampunk with magic replacing the steam. However, in the short space of this novella, the author draws some compelling characters and certainly having a rousingly dramatic ending always helps. I thought the introduction of Agent Fatma el-Sha’arawi at the end of the story was a very nice touch. I was surprised to find this was the second story in a series. It stands alone very nicely and I like that each one centers on different characters. I look forward to reading A Dead Djinn in Cairo.

  • Fantastic!

Mr. Clark has created a captivating world here, which is a delight to read. The characters are engaging, the setting is rich, and the language is a joy. Highly recommended, as is the original short story, "A Dead Djinn in Cairo".

  • Fun Read!

I love the premise and the setting. Cairo, Egypt 1910 with futuristic transit system and supernatural action and Arab culture . Great story, interesting characters and gorgeous and vivid descriptions of detail. I highly recommend this book.
