    Loved!

Loved it. An excellent and infinitely more entertaining (and also more believable!) telling of the events in The Prisoner of Zenda. If you haven't read the original work yet, I strongly suggest you do so before starting this one.

really thoroughly enjoyed this. a unique retelling from another (more interesting) view point. it also benefited from giving the women some agency and real personality. highly recommend. i now want to become a hench(wo)man and have some adventures...

    What a joy!

This was such a fun book. I received an ARC from the author so it’s been a month since I read it and I am already considering putting it on my re-read list. I wasn’t keen on the writing in the original Zenda book by Anthony Hope. His use of sentence structure was so confusing (to me - maybe I don’t read enough Victorian pulp) but KJ Charles managed to sound similar to the original while also refreshing the language enough for a modern reader to enjoy. I absolutely recommend this to all who enjoy Victorian pulp, m/m romance , fencing and swashbuckling, complicated plots with ever changing alliegences.
