    A Scottish Adventure!

At her first royal ball, Evelyn saw him talking to her father. "Truly he might possibly be the most striking man she'd ever seen. It was all she could do not to openly gawk. No, she'd never met a man such as he. Beautiful, yet masculine. His face youthful, yet sophisticated and wise. The inability to put her finger on what made the earl more alluring caused her to stare more." It was the first time she has seen John Erskine, the Earl of Mar and Secretary of State for Scotland. Of course with her current occupation of spying and helping the cause of the Jacobites, which supported her passion to end the power of the aristocracy, she thought him another priviledged peer. Amy Jarecki is a master at creating a story with all of the elements of a dazzling Scottish romance that will take your breath away! An arranged marriage, a simmering passion that explodes, suspense that will keep you intrigued, secrets that will come out and a road to love that winds it way to the end. There is so much more I can say, but I will leave you with words of wisdom. If you enjoy reading stories that will grab you from the first page and hold your attention until the end, this one is for you! Have enjoyed this series so much and although this can be read as a standalone, I encourage you to read them all!!

Danger, despair and a deep abiding love

I loved this book! Amy writes with such passion, such feeling that it comes through expertly on the pages. John and Evelyn start out rocky but thru all their perils find the way to one anothers hearts. John is a widower with two sons and some might claim the most eligible bachelor. But his seemingly wishy washy politics make it hard to know if he stands for his Scottish countrymen or has sold out to the English and the queen. But once he decides that Evelyn will meet the needs as mother of his sons he goes after her. Evelyn doesn't know what to think. She supports the true king as a Jacobite in secret. Her father's unseemigly business dealings are against everything she is and John seems to agree with her father. How can a union work? But Maybe she can use him and his place on the queens cabinet. Despite the growing attraction between them the distance caused by untrust is abounding. And that distrust causes dangers that Evelyn never dreamed possible. Aligning herself with someone hiding his true nature brings out Johns protective side. And protecting his wife and family, not to mention clearing his name as a traitor is first on his list. Evelyn never wanted to put the boys in harms way. But with them safely away she is all alone with her husband. And tucked away from all troubles and trials their love begins to bloom. The trust begins to be built and passions ignite. Will they be able to safely clear their names and gain the queens trust or will they forever be called traitors running for their lives?

Another great read from Amy Jarecki!

I've read all the books in this series and this was one of my favourites. I loved the time frame this novel takes place in. The struggle to put who the Scottish believed to be the True King on the throne, it was a time where you had to keep a lot of your beliefs secret. Lady Evelyn Pierrepont was more than just a lady, she was a spy. She had a cause to believe in and would do what needed to be done to help it succeed. The Earl of Mar, a recent widower, is in search of a wife to help care for his two sons and to clear off the debt that was left from his father. He has been working as the Secretary of State of Scotland, directly with Queen Anne and has done his best for his beloved Scottish people. Though Lady Evelyn was not looking to become a wife, she married the Earl of Mar because it would offer her opportunities to spy on someone directly associated with the Queen. However, things do not go as planned. Danger and misunderstanding ensue. This book was a delight from beginning to end. I loved both the h & H, as well as his two sons and we cannot forget about the elderly Corgi, Brutus. One thing I love about Amy Jarecki is how she takes real people from history and gives them a place in her stories. I was given an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

    4.5 Stars!!

4.5 Stars!! If you like older, still fit & handsome man with a younger woman, than you would like this. There is a lot of mystery, a little romance & a little ‘oh my gosh, what’s going to happen now!?’! Plenty of surprises too! I really enjoyed this book! I highly recommend it too! It’s a standalone book but it’s the 6th book in the series! I’m planning on reading the series since this was the first book I’ve read from it! I hope the other books are as good as this one! Next book definitely needs to be about the ship captain Keenan Cameron!!! I really liked him!! Ha! Anyway, great book & I highly recommend you read it, even if you haven’t read any of the other books in the series! *I received this book to read and review at no charge from the publisher and I gave my honest opinion.*
