    Psychological Thriller/Suspense

The Honeymoon by Rona Halsall As I finished I thought, “twisted web” then had to look the words up and realized it was a tangled web quote I was thinking of, “O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!” and Walter Scott definitely would have agreed with me that this story was both tangled and twisted, too. We know from the beginning of the book that Chloe, on her way to her dream honeymoon, will soon be having second thoughts. As the story moves from the race to the plane to the first inklings of something not right then on to more and more to question I wondered why Chloe kept giving her husband Dan the benefit of the doubt. There were several flashbacks to the meeting and courtship period between Chloe and Dan and then I scratched my head more than a few times thinking of how naive and gullible Chloe seemed to be. As I read I questioned and though there were times that I disagreed with Dan’s behavior and questioned his veracity I felt that I was missing part of his backstory and was curious about what he was hiding. I have to say that there was more than one option I saw as the end of this story BUT I was surprised that it ended as it did and for a person who reads the end of a book out of order...this book still kept me guessing. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC ~ This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

A fantastic thriller from cover to cover

Rating: 4.5/5.0 The Honeymoon, marry in haste, repent at leisure! This was a fantastic suspense thriller. Kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Chloe is physiotherapist who meets Dan, falls in love with him & in a very short period of time they get married & decide to go on a honeymoon. They both keep secrets from each other, but Chloe gradually feels that her husband is not the man she thought he was! Pros: - Great writing style. This is the first book I read for Rona Halsall & I really enjoyed her style of storytelling. I need to grab her other books now. - The story is unpredictable. Every time I felt that the story was going to go to a cliche direction the author proved me wrong by going a different way which I appreciate very much. In the beginning, I thought that the story was going to be like B.A. Paris' Behind Closed Doors but it didn't. This is offering lots of new things. Lots of secrets & lies. - Although we don't have many characters here the main characters stand out very well. They have depth to them & lots of grey shades. - Let us not forget to mention how gorgeous the cover is. Perfect design for the story. Cons: - Some actions of the characters cannot be justified, but that does not mean real people won't do them. While reading you may ask why the main characters did something instead of doing something else. This is not a big con because people are different in real life & they have different perspectives. Final Thought: Grab this book when it is going to be released (7th June 2019), I highly recommend it for anybody who loves a gripping story. Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for providing me an ARC copy. This is my honest & unbiased review.

    Frustrating but twist-packed

Both Chloe and Dan were infuriating characters to me, making this a difficult read. The action was solid, which saves this books from a lower rating. Chloe never seems to learn from her past and doesn't seem to know how to treat anyone around her without demeaning herself. While I realize this is a reality for some, I just couldn't connect with her and found myself wanting to sit down and have a serious heart-to-heart with her about who gets to determine her worth (herself and no one else!). Dan's behavior was too reminiscent of abusiveness and gaslighting to ever make him likable or relatable and I constantly wanted to give him a swift kick in the pants. While I realize perhaps this was the intent, I don't think it did the story any justice as I had to take breaks to get away from the frustration he caused. The twists kept coming through this which made it difficult to put down and I was grateful for the later twists that ultimately made the ending unpredictable.

    Fantastic book!

Chloe meets Dan when he brings his mum in for physical therapy. After a 2-month whirlwind courtship, they wed and leave for a honeymoon in the Maldives. However, Dan has surprised Chloe and changed their destination to Menorca. This sets off a series of events which has Chloe wondering if her prince charming is really the devil in disguise. I really enjoyed this quick easy read which was full of suspense and surprises. I found the characters pretty much unlikeable including her Gran, but overall it is a very good book and I especially liked the ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read an ARC of this page-turner in exchange for an honest review.

She is as psychotic as he is!

Please, did I spend hours reading this bad trope of Washington Square? You know, the old movie where Olivia de Haviland somehow is made to look ugly, next to handsome Cliff Montgomery? This is Chole, continually worrying about what she did to upset her handsome husband, who, gasp, wants to marry her? Oh my, I cannot believe she was so stupid, as to sign something without reading it, then finds out, when it is too late, her money has been wiped out, her grandmother doesn't love her, neither do her vile brother, and sister, snif, snif! Oh no, someone maybe following her, her husband, who has stolen her phone, lied to her repeatedly, he could not possibly have done it, could he? Please, someone, take my tablet away, I am nauseous! Chole is 5 feet 9 inches tall; she does physiotherapy, she knows exactly where to hit someone to make them hurt, yet, here she is, whining again, Oh no, it's a forest, I don't want to walk through there! If the walk to town is only fifteen minutes away, how long is it through the woods, three minutes, tops?! Here is the real deal breaker for me, she is just as selfish as he is and just as much of a sociopath! Did she admit to anyone, including the police as to her actions with her Mother, or Liam? No, which makes her morally guilty! I think they deserved each other! Not for me! I don't like stupid women! Thank you Netgalley! carolintallahassee.com
