  • Wow!

Filled with not only feeling but fact about slavery in the south during the early 19th century, this book taught me history as well as deeply moved me. After reading the book, many times it took me several hours to get back to the present. Handful and Sarah are not only endearing but courageous. With her rich use of descriptive words, the author immersed me into each scene-I found myself rapidly reading-even skipping several words so I could turn the next page. It is a definate "Wow!" book for me.

  • I picked this book from the positive reviews and the fact that I love the authors other book, "The Secret Life of Bees". I was not disappointed. I LOVED the book. Just couldn't put it down. I have recommended it to all my friends.

  • WOW!!! A though provoking novel. The way that two very different lives can interact and become equal against the thoughts of others just blew me away!
