  • A Masterfully crafted compelling story

I don't give out many five star ratings, and this is perhaps my first for Schwab... though I have loved her previous books... but the ILAL is bar none one of the best reads I've had in 2020. The plot is engrossing and creative. AND would make a great screenplay... (ahem... Hollywood are you listening?)... The messages are strong and the perspective of a strong woman living out the ages is compelling... Schwab says this was ten years in the writing and I believe her... this book was crafted... I found myself again and again highlighting passages where she masterfully played with language. I love her writing. I can't say enough about this book. read it. savour it. Highly recommended.

  • I Will Always Remember Addie

Let’s give this book 7 stars–– one for each of Addie’s freckles. I had high expectations and hopes for this book, and I still was not prepared for the way it swept me off my feet. Right from the beginning, Addie and her story captivated me and took me on an adventure I will truly never forget. This book will break hearts. But it will fill readers with emotion and hope and inspiration. It is a book that will leave its mark on anyone who opens its pages. Addie is a hero. She doesn’t slay dragons or become queen or start a conventional rebellion. But her determination, awe, and dreamers’ soul kept me cheering for her and hoping she would have a moment of happiness. Henry is also such an amazing and sad character that I just wanted to give him a hug all the time. I even enjoyed Luc, who is as complex as a character can get. The romances are so moving and heart-warming that I could actually feel myself swooning. Schwab’s incredible dedication and skill make this one of the most magical books I’ve ever read. This is something everyone needs to read. It will enchant, inspire, and make you think long after it’s over. You will truly, never forget Addie.

  • Beautiful Prose

Everything about this book felt French. Obviously, the first half of the book was often set in France, but it wasn't just that. It was the lyrical nature of the writing, the names, the story. Every moment you felt the emotions deeply. I most definitely cried. Can I have a sequel so I can just see the end? I need it.

  • Enjoyed every minute of reading this book

I really loved this book. First off, the author crafted such an original story, but even more, she filled the pages with some of the most beautifully written descriptions that I have ever read. I enjoyed every minute of reading this book and would definitely recommend.

  • Good

Different from the movie but so detailed, maybe a little too much I skipped lines paragraphs and even almost pages in descriptions of feelings and whatnot. otherwise a good read, quite interesting
